Teaching media literacy in a community where media is limited

That will be my daunting task if I choose to accept a teaching position with a small religous school for the 2011/12 school year. The families do not have televisions at home, Internet is quite closed, and when movies are watched they are generally informative rather than entertaining.And my challenge is to meet all of the provincially mandated requirements for course completion while a big part of the English courses that I will be teaching involves the understanding and use of technology and other media.Should be interesting! Do you offer external rewards to children as a way to change behaviour?A recent conversation over at Leading from the Heart has led me to express how I really don't believe in external reward systems as a way to shape behaviours. A representative from Marble Jar sent me an email about 2 weeks back asking if I could review their new app for the iPhone and iPad. After a bit of back and forth getting me a promo code for the app and my little holiday to beat the heat with Jack in my parents’ air conditioned home, I am back at home and ready to write the review.I’m writing this as I play with the app on my iPad.
