Diana Veiga

Diana Veiga is a writer on a journey to become a writer. No, she’s not sure what that means either. All she knows is that she has enjoyed writing since she was a little girl and is now trying to figure out how to become a published author. She is working on two novels and a collection of short stories, all works in progress. When not writing, she is a single Black female addicted to retail, who also loves to read, entertain, travel, say ignorant things, laugh way too loud, and sometimes she gets asked out on dates. Shimmy! While she is definitely awesome, she is not a diva, or a goddess, or a superstar. She is a real down to Mars girl, a worker bee, a chick with a passion for writing – trying to figure out how to make a living and a life. A work in progress.

Check out www.aworknprogress.com for more! “You should live every day like it’s your last day because one day you’re gonna be right.” -Ray CharlesAnybody who knows me knows that I do what I want. Or maybe I should rephrase that – I only do what I want to do. I mean in my leisure time/me time, not like work and hold doors open for people. If I don’t want to do it, I don’t. If I don’t want to go with y’all, I don’t. If I don’t want to participate on that committee, I don’t. And on....more

When Did You Learn the Danger of Being a Woman?

Visit www.aworknprogress.com for more! The other night, around 10ish, I was coming from my parents house, going through the dark winding park and I saw this woman jogging. I wanted to roll down my window and shout the following:“Why are you running on the road (with your back to the cars), instead of along the path, thus decreasing your chances of getting hit by a car!?!”“Why don’t you have on brighter clothes so that cars can see your dumb butt running?!?!”...more

Meet "The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl" Creators Issa Rae and Tracy Oliver

Turn on the television and there’s no telling what you’ll see in regards to Black people. Women in skin tight dresses on the hunt for "love". Women with the loosest of ties to basketball players throwing bows and pulling each others hair. Men dressed as women. Or men in polka dot pants and striped shirts calling for Cora. The lack of options can be frightening and make one feel as if all hope is lost for alternative images of Black folks....more

Comfort Food

Check out www.aworknprogress.com for more!I recently DVR’d a What Not to Wearepisode because the previews intrigued me. It featured a young professional Black woman who was surprised with the ‘you need a makeover’ on her 31st birthday. Now I’ve watched a lot of What Not to Wears – but in my Katt Williams’ voice – this chick right here?!? This chick right here??! She was one of the worse. Like every morning she just said ‘eff effort’. Or got dressed in the dark....more
