Here We Go Again

My house is looking emptier by the day and my four year old keeps asking me if I'll pack his bed so we can take it to our new house. "Of course!", I constantly reassure him. We are taking everything from your room to the new house." His response, "Even my blanket? That simple conversation made me stop in my tracks and really think about how this move is going to effect him more than the other two moves he's been through....more

Salute Our Fallen Heroes

September 11, 2001 was just like any other day as I drove onto Fort Gordon, GA. I worked at the treatment facility as a SGT in the Medical Corp. What happened on this date changed our country and military forever. As the staff and patients watched the tragic events unfold we all were overcome with grief, helplessness, and anger. We had so many questions and very few answers....more

American Sniper and what we can do for our veterans

I have been known to share my feelings on movies The Hurt Locker.  It's no surprise that I have seen just about every single military movie and documentary that has come out recently.  But none, none has stuck with me the way American Sniper has. ...more

The Coach Bag and French Tip Clique: Welcome to Army Wife-dom

I had a moment at a recent Hail and Farewell. I had been pretty poopyfaced about the immanence of Deployment #2, and since our hail fell on my birthday I was especially irritated. I hadn't really talked to anyone about how I was feeling, it was a lot of holding back tears, so breaching the topic just wasn't something I wanted to tackle yet. ...more

Phases of Marriage I read an article recently from a woman who woke up one day and realized after several years of marriage that there were some seriously dysfunctional habits  in her relationship; not the obvious kind, the kind that only the victim is aware of. At the end of the article she said she was staying with her husband. She was going to stand by him and work towards better days. It was inspiring to me, because even in her darkest hour she knew that this slice of her marriage didn't represent her entire relationship. ...more
