A Minotaur for Halloween at the Center of the Maze

Their little faces were alight when they found him, Minotaur, at the center of the large maze—the tall walls built of hay bales. Their little bodies were dripping with sweat, and their faces flushed, from running round and around the maze. And at last having found him, Minotaur, they received a gift, a golden pumpkin; their reward for their perseverance and daring search.

Every year, for the past 15-years or so, come rain and mud or shine, we’ve taken the family to Arata’s Pumpkin Patch in Half Moon Bay, California. What began as our little family of five, two daughters and one son has now grown to add spouses and grandchildren. What a treat it is for my hubby and me. Two’s company and many more is a happy crowd!

Every couple of years Arata’s Pumpkin Patch adds some new attraction to sweeten the visit—bringing in more customers—for those of us that are coming from a distance, and usually forced to sit in a fair-amount-of-time in heavy traffic, as we inch our way through the steep mountain on a two-lane road.

Every year we’ve taken more and more people with us, adding to the caravan of cars, adding to the population at the pumpkin patch. And this year was no different than any other. We all met at the appointed time, piled in the cars, having packed sandwiches and snacks and drinks for the ride.

The children and grandchildren disembarked from the cars with great excitement, and anticipation of picking out pumpkins, visiting the haunted house, watching the medieval sword fighting, and, last but not least, a daring of one another as to who would brave the maze and come out in the least amount of time spent lost!

After the fact, pictures taken by everyone were quickly uploaded unto Facebook. And wouldn’t you believe the huge response we’ve had, from curious and envious family (that couldn’t go) and friends.

Time well spent; and another year to look forward to.

How difficult is it to sign up with the people you post pictures through? And does it cost money out of my pocket? I'd love to share pictures, but my adult children all took them. They are the one's that shared them on Facebook. So I guess I need HELP! KarenLynnn

Absolutely everyone looks forward to it as soon as we are approaching the month of October. And I tell the truth when I mention that we've gone even when it has been pouring rain and the place is slippery with mud ~ our shoes and socks caked with mud! ropcorn

It was a beautiful day, and one we have added to our collective family memories. I am hoping to get pictures from my daughters and sister. Hubby and I left the job of taking pictures to everyone else. We sat this one out. LOL! Forever 17

It is a tradition of so many years now, we are not allowed to break it. We've even gone when it has been raining and the place is muddy. But what fun we have still... Seriously, rain or shine we are there. Smiling! victorias_view

Everyone looks forward to this time of year. We usually do it the week after the Pumpkin Festival (too crowded then). But if you are on Facebook, and only if you are not uncomfortable (I would not take offense if you declined), I could send an invite from FB. All the pictures were taken by my baby sister, my oldest daughter and my son's girlfriend. So I have no pictures of my own to post. Sorry!isthisthemiddle
