Missing NYC at Christmastime
by Jen M.

I used to live in New York City. My children were born there, and we
moved to the West Coast when they were 3 and a half, and 16 months old.
They don't remember it much, except for our annual summer visit and
occasional mid-year jaunts. But I sure see it on TV all the time ,what
with the national nightly news being broadcast from there (on the major
non-cable networks), the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
and the lighting of the Rockefeller Christmas tree. I do not, I repeat

- NOT - miss being cold all the time! Nevertheless, there are so many
wonderful things to do in NYC over the Christmas holiday,
that it's easy for new activities to be overlooked. My new favorite
thing to do in NYC (that I won't get to do this year, since I"m not
returning until after the holiday season), is the Muppet Whatnot Workshop.
It's pretty expensive for what is essentially a stuffed
animal-slash-puppet, but the Muppet Show was one of my faves as a
little kid, and I still watch clips of it on YouTube.

I probably won't be back in NYC until next summer. When I get back
home, though, you can be sure one thing I'll be unpacking is my new,
personally designed muppet. :) I know I'll make a way to fit that into
our family travel budget.

Window Shopping

They do a pretty decent facsimile of glitz here in my Goretex town, but I really loved going window shopping in NYC during the holiday season. I'm not a shopper, even, but I love the pageantry of display that goes on downtown... and I can see why people enjoy it.
