Modern Day Hostess: 6 Reasons I'm Not Martha Stewart

She’s had a great run.  An icon to  housewives, wannabe chefs, and talented hostesses alike, Martha Stewart has built a legacy, an empire, and a fortune in the process.  Even an insider trading scandal and five-months in a West Virginia prison could not derail her image or success.  That said, today is a new day.  It’s time for a passing of the torch, a changing of the guard!
So I shout it now from the rooftops, these are the reasons why I’m not Martha Stewart, why it’s O.K., and why it’s time for a change!  This is the day of the Modern Day Hostess!–One who believes that entertaining doesn’t have to be perfect…it just has to be fun.

1.  Martha wouldn’t make a rockin’ Pandora playlist for her New Year’s Eve Party.

All my modern day hostesses know that good music is a key ingredient to creating the desired ambiance of your event, yet, this is an often overlooked piece among traditionalists, and I’m not sure why.   At my New Year’s Eve party, music was a KEY ingredient to creating the party atmosphere I wanted. Here’s my recent fave:

2.  The Modern Day Hostess considers hostess fashion as important as her shrimp and prosciutto appetizers.

Now this is a piece that I feel has been highly regarded for some time:  The hostess dressing for their occasion, yet I feel it is also an often overlooked detail, that is rarely blogged about!  I believe the modern day hostess is interested in knowing what to wear for certain occasions, and for sharing beautiful finds!

3.  While it’s adorable to make your own food coloring, dip your own candles, and cultivate your own honey… the Modern Day Hostess has a full time job they must attend to ( ie. work /kids).

Now props to the person that can do all the above while juggling all that they have going on in their lives, but if you don’t get to it this year, that’s ok!  I appreciate little pinterest  posts or Martha Stewart video tutorials about how to do these things, but I’ve book marked them under “Novelty Imaginations” that I will save for another day…. and I’ve still hosted fabulous events.
