Target 02/11/10

This was a quick trip since we were out anyways and I needed face wash. The savings seem good because most items were free. I did realize I have a mental block to spending money now – I didn’t pick up a magazine because I didn’t want to double the amount I was spending!...more

Need an answered prayer?

JMJ Do you have a prayer request? A special need?  Well, I spent all night placing a live webcam to Lourdes, France on my website, including a little mailbox to their prayer request email.  All kinds of weird computer problems kept cropping up, and I kept offering them up as a prayer, which did help to keep me from being annoyed.  Then... This morning I got an email from a friend who told me that today is OUR LADY OF LOURDES FEAST DAY!  Wow.  I had no idea!  That is just so cool... ...more

Disagreeing on Green Values: Why My Husband Thinks I'm Ned Flanders

A few weeks ago, my husband Michael forwarded me the NY Times article, "Therapists Report Increase in Green Disputes" As awareness of environmental concerns has grown, therapists say they are seeing a rise in bickering between couples and family members over the extent to which they should change their lives to save the planet. ...more

Confession: I do not recycle.

There, I said it. I can see the disappointment on your face; the sideways smirk, a slight "tsk." And it makes me want to hide under the table and suck my thumb. There are things I think I do to help the environment and as much as I'd like to think I'm jumping on the GREEN bandwagon, I've more or less took hold - but my body is dragging along, pulled at top speed, hitting every rock and tree along the way. H&M's ethical identity crisis

What to make of the recent behaviour of H&M? On one hand we have the shocking news, reported in the New York Times on Tuesday, that the Swedish company's New York store had been slashing unsold clothes so that they could not be sold or worn again. This kind of mindless waste makes me feel ill....more

Tired of Toxic Soup? Try Homemade Cough Syrup

Do you have a cough right now or know someone who does? Then I want to talk to you. In December, I caught a cold and towards the end of it was hacking pretty badly. Now, I realize that you don’t want to suppress a productive cough. But this cough was bad enough to keep me up at night, robbing me of much needed rest. So I polished off two plastic bottles of cough/cold medicine: the remainder of a bottle of Nyquil that I bought years ago (yeah, it still worked) as well as the last couple of doses of yummy Prometh cough syrup with Codeine. And by yummy, I mean I held my hose and chugged it down, trying to bypass my taste buds as much as possible....more
