Birthing babies

I have to admit: I was terrified of this class. I’ve never been pregnant or given birth before but I’ve seen the videos and watched several pregnancy related shows on Discovery. Every vaginal delivery seemed to consist of the same couple of things: mom screaming out in pain, dad trying to comfort mom, mom cussing out dad because “you did this to me”, mom screaming out in pain some more, then the kid comes out screaming and everyone cries....more

That Can HAPPEN?

Or, the ways my doula scared the shit out of me.   Ok, that's an exaggeration.  She didn't scare me.  But there were several things that I didn't even know should be considerations  in the birthing process that made me go, "WHAT? That can HAPPEN?"  And, I warn you now, not everything here is pretty.  And, I'm not very technical here, so if you want more specific information, ask your doctor.  Or Google it.  Because everything on the Internet is correct....more

The Trimesters of Life - SAHM Project - Entry Six

Pregnancy and I have a love/hate relationship. I am not one to have an easy time with pregnancy in the first trimester. I'm the mama with her head in the toilet, the trash can, the parking lot of Target, the random grocery bag I find lying in my car. It's just not a pretty thing. There is no beauty, no poise, no food left in my stomach. But it is also during this time that I am most excited at the prospect of this new little life inside of me. ...more

Need an answered prayer?

JMJ Do you have a prayer request? A special need?  Well, I spent all night placing a live webcam to Lourdes, France on my website, including a little mailbox to their prayer request email.  All kinds of weird computer problems kept cropping up, and I kept offering them up as a prayer, which did help to keep me from being annoyed.  Then... This morning I got an email from a friend who told me that today is OUR LADY OF LOURDES FEAST DAY!  Wow.  I had no idea!  That is just so cool... ...more

“It was all so lush…” – how it really feels to give birth at 17 years old

I was just 17 when my first daughter, Bee, was born. He dad, Jonathan, was a year younger than me and was still at school until about three weeks before she was born. At the time I didn’t think too much about my circumstances, and obviously felt incredibly grown up and mature, as you do when you’re a teenager. Now Bee is a teen herself and I am beginning to realise just how much of a child I really was! ...more
