New Parenting Advice Column Needs Readers/Problems

I am starting a weekly advice column on my blog, Playground Confidential. I hope to answer questions and concerns about all aspects of parenting and being a parent. My personal expertise as a Mom only extends as far as pre-schoolers right now. (I have a 33-month-old son and a 3-month-old daughter.) I am, however, the eldest of four (the baby is still a teen) and have much experience to draw on from all ages. ...more

Moving on to Common Ground

By Cristina Page On the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Connecticut Catholic Conference announced its solution to the increasing rate of teenagers seeking abortion care in the state. They proposed abortion restrictions; specifically, limiting teenager's access to abortion by requiring parental notification. If the goal is lowering the abortion rate, this is the wrong approach. ...more

Blogging for Choice on 36th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

And I mean that in terms of whether you support or oppose the results of Roe. You can read the decision itself here or read a nice breakdown at For the record, I support the constitutional rights recognized in the U.S. Supreme Court decision which made a woman's medical decision regarding her reproductive rights legal and I am against the erosion of those rights. ...more

I See You're Pregnant, So I'll Be Rude and Stupid

While out running errands this weekend I came across a heavily pregnant woman waddling her way through the mall.  As I reminisced about those final weeks of my own pregnancy and wondered how I managed, I heard a very familiar comment directed towards the expectant mother.  "Oh my, you're gigantic!", exclaimed some insensitive passerby.  ...more

After only being married for three weeks we were pregnanat. I found out at my second opinion appointment. Things they don't tell you when you get married

I'm sure there are a lot of things (and my friend Melanie is going to write a book about them). But one of those things is that it is not always easy to have a baby. I grew up thinking that if a girl wasn't on birth control you would get pregnant the first time you ever had sex. Now, I'm sure for some people that is true. For me, its not. It's been about 10 months since the last time Josh and I were pregnant. The first 2 times it happened relatively quickly - this time, not so much. Most days I am ok with that, but some days, like today, it's more difficult. ...more

Brave Bloggers Share What It Is Like to Have an Abortion

I am continually blown away by the idea that women's health is best served by denying women access to the information that we need to make informed decisions. This ongoing attack on women's health primarily concerns reproductive decisions, but really runs the gamut of all health issues, from breast reconstruction after a mastectomy to acne treatment. Information is held back for a variety of reasons ranging from religious issues to medical profitability. ...more
