What Mom Really Wants for Mother's Day

In case you haven't looked at a calendar recently, it's May. Can you believe it? I feel like I just put away my Christmas decorations (and I promise I did that in December...I'm not one of those people who leaves them up for months). This year has gone by so fast. With May upon us, it's time to start thinking about Mother's Day. That is not a reminder. It's a directive. Start thinking about it. Your mom (wife, sister, daughter, friend, grandma, mentor, godmother, step mom) deserves it....more

Holy Crap, I'm Getting Old(er)

Yep, you read that right.  I'm getting older.  Every day, older and older.  It doesn't take a genius to figure this out.  As I sit here, I can't help but think about the things that I only wish some of my older, yet wiser, friends would have told me would happen to me in my 30's as I edge closer and closer to 40.   1.  Hair.  Oh Lord, the hair.  I am not referring to the hair on the top of my head.  I am...more

Misadventures at the Park

I should call me blog “misadventure at the park” I mean seriously? Why is it that I can’t even go to the park with my kids and enjoy a quiet day of screaming, climbing, crying, and laughing? I take my kids to the park so that they can burn off steam. This is the place that they should be able to scream, jump,, and climb without me saying “no jumping on the couch!” So yesterday I took my son, his friend (both preschoolers) and my 18 month old to the park.  The boys had a  soccer ball with them…this is where the problem began....more

Our Children Are Listening

Today when I picked up my three-and-a-half-year-old son from preschool, his teacher told me this story: Apparently my son and one of his best buds, Luke, found themselves together this morning in the class bathroom, which consists of two childsize potties that sit side by side. My son was dutifully sitting on one potty, and Luke was on the other. I guess they were chatting together, and the subject of poops came up, as it is wont to do in that situation. The teacher overheard Luke say that he was having trouble getting his poop out. The teacher said that my son leaned over and said to Luke authoritatively, “Luke, you need fiber! That’s what you need! Fiber!”...more

MSD, It's Real and It's a Problem

I don't run.  It's not that I can't, I just don't.  I don't like it.  I never have and I never will.  Plus I've got excuses.  I have a 1 year old that can't stand staying in a stroller for very long (nevermind that she stayed in her stroller for 4 hours yesterday while I was shopping at the mall, but that was different).  I also have bad knees (one of my knee caps got chipped in an accident on some ice back in college) and bad ankles.  Oh, and I don't like to run.  So running is out.  I know it's trendy (it's like the powerwalking trend of the 80...more
