Momspotting: Tech Can't Replace the Face-to-face

Sometimes, even the uber-techy just want to reach out and touch someone.

Sometimes I do wonder if we are so busy talking to each other with our fingers that we have completely forgotten that we're in public.

Especially when you need a break, it's good to set everything aside and just enjoy family and friends.

Talk about it with the Momspotters in the Family Connections Group.

I get very annoyed with distractions and am a uber-focus person. So I like being alone, very much. The problem is that I tend to hermit.

And honestly, it was pretty depressing. I had a desperate need to engage anyone in face to face conversation. In a lot of ways, I have a good work situation now--I have the flexibility to work at home sometimes, but I also have an office I can go to, and work-related travel that brings me many meetings.

I only see some of my dearest friends a few times a year. I'd die if I couldn't call or e-mail them.

after the whole day of sitting in front of the computer, when I got home, I still spend quite a long time on my phone talking or texting with my friends. though it can't replace face to face, its still a big help in communicating with friends in different parts of the country.

Some days I fear that I am going turn into a crazy cat lady I have been such a hermit the last couple of years.

For the most part I like it but man...I HAVE to get out to have interaction as well. :)

after school, but they are 11 and 13 and are on their phone or computer or doing homework and don't want to sit and talk with mum much. When I take them shopping at the grocery or Target I don't let them use their phone. Because I want to "ruin their life". I make them have some mum and daughter time. I live in area that is isolated from friends. I'm trying to find people in the area, but it is harder than I imagined! I need to get my membership back at the gym.

I often wonder if I could work in an isolated environment if I didn't live with two people who come home bursting with things to say and things they need me to say. I am kept quite busy during the day with my computer-box people, but it is much needed for me to have humans in the evenings. A dinner club, perhaps?

Hey Jen 5 pts

For over 3 years now and now I can't imagine ever having to go back to working in an actual office somewhere. ...I will have to do a lot of clothes shopping. haha There are days that I get itchy to go out and see actual people that aren't in my computer. Otherwise I am pretty much home until the weekend.

Have to say though, it's been hell on my dating life. I haven't had an actual date in...a very long time.

I rarely leave the house now that I'm working from home during the workweek. I can't wait for warmer weather so I can at least go for a walk outside at lunchtime!

Since I became a stay at home mom, I do NEED face to face contact with other women. If I don't get out of my house at least once per week I get cabin fever.
