A bucket of bright red crawfish caught my eye. I used to chase these little guys in the brook at the end of the street where I grew up. Didn't eat them until I got a lesson in an oyster bar in New Orleans.

I peered over the lid, leaning in to take a picture, while learning that they'd been collected from Youngs Bay near Astoria, Oregon. I took a step forward to see what else Wild Oregon had brought to market, when I got a bit of a startle.
Attack crawfish!!!!!!
Actually, he was a bit more sedate until I got in his face with my camera.
Markets visited this week = Hilldale Farmers' Market. And I'm sad to say, this is my last Hillsdale Farmers' Market. The husband and I are moving back to Denver, Colorado at the end of the week. I got a little verklempt moving from booth to booth. Peppers in November in Oregon vs. it just snowed a foot and a half in Denver. While saying goodbye to the Hillsdale Market Manager, he gave me some encouragement, reminding me that lots of Colorado sun means lots of greenhouse gardening. There are many fall and winter local veggie adventures yet to be had.
In the meantime, I gravitated to the most colorful displays to keep my spirits up.
Rick Steffen's pepper buffet is still going gangbusters.
And they were just setting out bouquet's of ornamental peppers. Rick said this is the first year he's grown them. How about that for a holiday centerpiece?!
My new friend, Swiss Chard, nestled between tomatoes and pimento peppers from Gathering Together Farm.
Every week, there's been a new color of cauliflower. Just how many different colors of cauliflower are there???? I can't take it!
Parsnip. Parsley Root. Is this the same thing? They sure look the same.
And wicked big kohlrabi from Gee Creek Farm. This is another vegetable I've been admiring from afar. I'm used to seeing it about half this size. These almost look like a pineapple!
Thank you Hillsdale Farmers' Market and all of the Hillsdale vendors. You have showed me so much.
If I'm lucky, I'll have one more Oregon Monday Dose of Market. Then it's on to a new frontier of vegetables in Colorado. Stay tuned!
