Who wants to budget their money?

A Budget can be a very useful tool . If you want to make goals for saving, paying off debt and  being organized on payday. I have decided to incorporate the ideas of YNAB .If we give all of our dollars a job we can be a more confident spender knowing we have a spending plan. I also think the idea of living on last month's income this month is definitely a fantastic idea! I am doing my best to get to that time in my life. How awesome would that be?...more

Coupon Insanity!

My mind has absolutely been blown away! I am sitting here watching “Extreme Couponing” on TLC with my mouth wide open.  These women (and a few men) dedicate their lives… I’m not exaggerating… to collecting coupons and spending close to nothing at the grocery store.  I watched one lady spend 1 cent for $600 worth of food! Are. You. Kidding. Me! So, as I’m watching, I’m online searching the web for those special couponing sites that help you build a strategy when going to the grocery store. My head is already spinning....more

Palm Trees, Snow-capped Mountains, Unwanted Pets Lay Dying: The New California Landscape?

I was talking to a colleague today about the condition and care of shelter animals and whether it has improved, worsened or stayed the same over the past 10 years. She asked me, what law I would pass to improve the plight of shelter animals if I had a magic wand. Notwithstanding my personal opinion that we already have too many redundant, ineffective and poorly written laws, I don't believe there is such a legal fix. I would rather use a wand to make everyone a humane, responsible pet caretaker and a model of good citizenship....more

Save Yourself: Follow the Rules of Buying from the Flash Sale Mob

In order to write about and report on sites like Gilt Groupe and Groupon, we need to cruise them and it's tricky-hard to mind your dollars and sense while spending hours immersed in checking out seductive goodies. Inevitably, this leads to the 'oy, what was I thinking' brand of buyer's remorse. While we have an excuse -- hey, it's an occupational hazard -- we're sharing our rules (and transgressions) so you don't get into hurry-hurry-click-and-buy-it trouble. ...more
