We can learn a lot from Mike Wazowski. As you probably know that in life, things don't sometimes happen as planned but those curve balls can still make your dreams come true.

This past summer, my nine-year-old daughter surprised us with the news that she wanted to play soccer again. Punky had been on a team coached by her dad between the ages of three and five, and during that time, it became painfully obvious that soccer was not going to be her thing. She was the kid who brought her dollies to games, who preferred socializing with her teammates to kicking the ball, and who once, memorably, inspired members of the other team to play a round of Ring-Around-the-Rosie with her in the middle of the field. In the middle of the game....more
Mazes for preschoolers, and really for all kids, are great for problem solving. There's no doubt about it, life is going to throw you a curve ball at some time or another. No matter what you've planned, life can always take you in unexpected directions. To achieve your dream, your finish line, sometimes you have to fail before you succeed....more
Did you see Monsters University yet!? James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski were amazing motivators! Together they worked hard -- passionately pursuing their goal! They set their eyes on what they wanted and although the path to get there changed, their willingness to work hard remained consistent! As I watched Monsters University I couldn't help but imagine my two little boys in such a similar scenario -- together!...more
My family and I were thrilled to have a chance to preview an early copy of the Monsters University Blu-ray Combo Pack. I picked up pizzas, and my nieces and nephew came over for a little viewing party. I was excited to watch it too, so I settled in with my kiddos to enjoy the show. I was so touched when Mike arrives at the university. His innocent and earnest heart is so sweet, he is living his dream. When he exclaimed, "I've been waiting for this my whole life!"...more
I was recently given a copy of Monsters University to watch with my kids. Since they love everything Disney it was an easy thing to say yes to. Even more, I love the theme of the film. It's calls the main characters to have to stand up for themselves in life, even when things don't go their way.And if they persevere, even when life is against them, they can make it happen. We know how that goes down, don't we?...more
This week, I got a very special package in the mail. No, it wasn't a sack of cash (I know, I was surprised, too). It was even better - an advance copy of Monsters University to watch with the kids! The movie, as you probably know, is about your favorite monsters from Monsters Inc. going to college to become the professional scarers they've always wanted to be. As you might guess, they hit some snags along the way, and adorable Pixar hilarity ensues....more
A little more than 2 years ago I had baby Ruth. Along with my sweet baby came some very unexpected complications. Complications that took me over a year and hours worth of physical therapy to overcome. Prior to my pregnancy with Ruth I had been involved in running quite a few races with my siblings but after the delivery I could barely stand up-right and running again seemed to no longer be an option. But I was lucky...and about a year ago I was able to start running again....more
Raising a girl these days is really hard. There are so many issues to discuss and so many feelings involved with... well, everything. Girls tend to take things really personally. When you attempt to point out that perhaps the friend who does not want to play four square at recess because she would rather jump rope is not actually a sign that the friendship is over, you are simply the mother who just doesn't understand....more
Yes you read that right. I have learned some great life lessons all from a PIXAR movie. Sounds funny huh? But it's true. So a while back, I took my nephews to go see Monsters University when it came out in theaters and although I am normally entertained and enjoy Disney movies it's not much more than that - entertainment, especially for the kids. But I was pleasantly surprised with the messages this movie portrayed. Not only for the kids but myself as well....more
I am officially 2 months into this crazy photography business idea and I am busier and happier than I've been in years. Convincing people to pay you to do what you love is old, clichéd advice...but it's repeated so often because it's true. Never do I think "Oh no, I have a photo session today." I always, always think "Yes! New people! New location! New light! I am so lucky!"...more
