Happy Birthday, Lady Gaga

BlogHer Original Post

There is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. And then there is Lady Gaga.

She's pretty young.

When you look deeper into her lyrics, you find there really aren't any.

But whether you love her or you hate her, you can't argue with her pulse on fame in America. Nearly every song references it, and she's been quoted as saying: "I've always been famous, it's just no one knew it yet."

As I stand in the grocery store checkout line and stare at the celebrity worship on magazine covers, it's hard not to think of Lady Gaga lyrics. You know, the ones stuck in your head even if you don't want them there?

We're plastic, but we still have fun!

Yet she's taken the world by storm, emulating and sometimes satirizing Madonna, arriving at the Grammies in an egg, wearing a meat dress to protest Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

What the hell is she doing?

Would you make me number one on your playlist?

Lady Gaga has a secret power -- she's Lady Gaga. From ShowbizSpy:

“When I wake up in the morning, I feel just like any other insecure 24-year-old girl,” GaGa said in a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

“Then I say, ‘Bitch, you’re Lady Gaga, you get up and walk the walk today’.”

The world can't get enough.

I love Lady Gaga because -- even in her early twenties -- she's not afraid to point fingers, to satirize, to comment. She's also not afraid to believe in herself, or if not in herself, in Lady Gaga.

Happy birthday, Stefani.
