I'd intended to post a traveler's thanks, but the attacks in Mumbai turned my thoughts to the travelers - and others - there. Here's a round up from a few travel sites.

A Luxury Travel Blog posts details on the hotel sites:

The Taj Mahal Palace has had its top floor engulfed in flames at the southern end of the building. Shootings and at least six explosions have been reported...At the Oberoi Mumbai it is rumoured that forty hostages are being held by three or four gunmen but there seems to be a great deal of uncertainty on this point at this stage. At Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus there have been more shootings and some grenades. Terrorists opened fire in the Leopold Café, not far from the Taj Palace. The siege on the hospital has been cleared by police.

Wrighty posts the essential "We're okay" post on TravelBlog.

We're not yet sure that we will be able to leave today but, according to reception, hotel cars are still going to the airport. We will get a hotel car. The airport, at the moment, is functioning normally so fingers crossed.

As does Matt on TravelPod who's doing some frying pan/fire travels because he's heading to Bangkok...

I am fine, and there are no signs of civil unrest on the other side of the country where I am now. That said, I am ready to leave India as soon as this evening, but now there is also a situation in Bangkok, where the PAD has taken over the international airport, so it looks like I will be delayed here, unless I choose or am able to somehow fly someplace completely differnt. We'll what happens when I get the airport tonight as I have not received an email from Thai airways yet.

India Uncut posts a detailed first person - and frequently updated - report.

That’s when we realised that this was much more than a random police encounter, or a couple of gunshots. We heard that terrorists with AK-47s had opened fire outside Leopold’s, the pub down the road. We heard there was firing elsewhere in the city as well, including in the Taj. We watched transfixed, and as the apparent scale of the incidents grew, we realised we couldn’t go home. We asked if they had a room vacant; they did, so we settled in, switched on the TV, and watched in horror.

Blogger Arun Shanbhag posts photos from the streets of Mumbai...

Dome of the Taj is nearly all burn’t out! Only the central post remains; the base of the dome is still burning! TV Cameras are located on diagonally opposite side of Taj and cannot see the dome; TV coverage only shows glow from burning dome! TV is now saying that shots are heard inside the Taj and all the terrorists are NOT YET cleared!

Our own BlogHer Snigdha Sen posted about the attacks as well.

This is my third post about coordinated terror attacks in the last five months. I am tongue-tied at our helplessness to secure ourselves.

And she included many more links to bloggers who are writing about the attacks.
