Yesterday was my 36th birthday. I was thinking about how much my life has changed in the last 10 years. My world is quite different now.
10 years ago:
I was a recent law school grad, clerking for a court in Sioux City, IA;
Children were a faraway, vague thought in the back of my head;
We had only 3 cats, having gotten the third one on my 26th birthday;
We owned one car and never dreamed of owning a minivan;
I had never even heard of a blog;
Life was simpler, only I didn't know it then.
The years have been good to me for the most part, but I wouldn't trade the hard times either. Every single experience, the good, the bad and the ugly have served a purpose and taught a lesson. They have shaped who I am right now and prepared me for things to come.
Reflection is good. It gives one a chance to think about how certain events have affected one's life and attitudes. And it allows one to be thankful for some outcomes and to learn how to avoid certain pitfalls. How has your life changed in the last 10 years? Is your life turning out how you thought it would?
It's Friday…. Go eat some chocolate. It's good for you, and you deserve it!
Nota Bene: I hold these truths to be self-evident, that all parents and kids are not created equally, but are wholly individual in personality and style. Regardless of these differences, the basic needs of love, patience and support remain constant. Here are the weekly affirmations, tips and reminders. Unless otherwise noted, these are entirely my opinion. Take them with a grain of salt, or not!
