ms.equality's search for "lifestyle changes"

So, I can't believe it has been 4 months since I've posted.  In that time, we've had the AMAZING SCOTUS decision declaring a portion of DOMA unconstitutional!!!!  I don't think I have ever been so excited.  In my eyes, even though we live in Virginia, my partner Nicky and I are MARRIED.  The federal government has accepted this proposition by allowing me to apply for and receive federal health benefits for Nicky (and the health benefit card came to our house with amazing speed).

Well, that's the good news.  On the health front, Nicky and I could both use some help!  Nicky has been experiencing episodes of dizziness and FINALLY went to the doctor.  All the test results aren't back yet, but she does have a preliminary diagnosis of DIABETES.  YUCK.

So, Nicky and I will be embarking on a health journey.  We've both been neglecting our health for way too long and, while it has caught up with Nicky, I will be the first to admit that I am not far behind.  Our eating habits are disasterous.

I plan to blog about our journey here, primarily to help hold myself accountable.  Too many times I've gathered up my resolve, only to migrate back to old habits after a day or two.  I'd welcome any advice or suggestions on where to begin.  Education, recipes, exercise...I know there is a lot to learn!
