MSNBC Democratic Debate-OPEN THREAD DISCUSSION

All eyes remain on Ohio and Texas with polls showing the Democratic candidates still close and rhetoric flying.

Tonight MSNBC will telecast a debate between Senator Hillary Clinton and Senator Barack Obama, live from Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, 9-10:30 p.m. ET.

NBC’s Brian Williams will moderate and be joined by "Meet the Press" moderator and NBC News Washington Bureau Chief Tim Russert. It will be streamed live on msnbc.com.

In the audience, will be BlogHer Jill Zimon of Writes Like She Talks, who has already been posting photos, video, and commentary from Cleveland State. Jill not only has access to the spin room, but she's one of the lucky few with a ticket into the debate hall.

The Huffington Post
will be live blogging the debate, as will Gloria Ferris. Ferris says,

"There is a lot of talk lately about historic moments occurring during the Democratic Primaries in 2008 and the eventual nominee chosen at the Democratic Convention later this year.  The two moments talked about more than any others is the nomination of a black man or the first woman for the president of the United States.  I think the most historic moment to me is the fact that the last one standing will most likely be voted for by a woman.  Women are a huge factor in this presidential primary race.  Whether we are white or black is not as important as the question of  who will receive our vote."

PC Free Zone
writes, "LOL this should be good. The last time Tim Russert who does not like Hillary did the debate it moved a lot faster and had more life to it then most debates."

Creative Ink says, "My mind is made up, but I'm interested to see what both candidates have to say tonight."

Will there be fireworks? Will it be another cordial event? Watch with us as Ohio gets a closer look at both democratic front-runners live in Cleveland.

Ok - all tips and advice accepted - here's my first "music" video - courtesy of clips from the 2/26/08 democratic primary debate at Cleveland State University

That's exactly what I told my husband last night.

At least THAT would have been funny!

Got lots of movies and shots of Jesse Jackson and numerous other folks in the Spin Room. Snow is CRAZY here - looking like kids might get a snow day - I feel badly for the out of towners!

Watch for a post tomorrow where I suggest we turn this all over to computer science grad students. :)

Sorry to be on eastern time here - it's almost 1am! But thanks and I look forward to writing it up tomorrow.

I'm actually glad to hear you both say that (see you both type that?) however I do think the stronger questions are good and not letting them flit around the answer...but it's almost as if he assumes EVERYONE is lying and avoiding him now. He was better when he at least gave some credit when he got honest answers.

Loving that description of Rush Limbaugh -- "the Jeff Conaway of talk radio." HA!

I agree with you Alyssa. It did feel like Tim Russert was going for "FOX like" defensive questioning...and I didn't like it at all.

Maybe it was a long time coming, but I used to be a fan.... He probably officially lost me in the first (?) dem debate in which he asked everyone their favorite bible verse. are you kidding me? But watching him tonight, he's clearly jsut trying to paint the candidates into corners, he's turned into a fox news pit bull, and it's almost offensive. which is ironic since he's keeping the candidates on the defensive. Not a good way to set the stage for constructive dialog. I"m done with Tim Russert. Of course, the debates are probably over too....

And maybe some photos and if I can, blog.

The biggest drawback on the videos is not being able to use iMovie with my camera because it strips out the audio and I don't have any other editing program - where is my 14 year old when I need him?

Literally - I was one row from the very last!

Many seats unused - most likely because of the snow. I've got a rundown on how some folks got tickets - there were a lot of people who paid heinous sums of money. I bet they are very disappointed, unless the VIP party before was that good. :)

Brian Williams' adlibbing was probably the height of the night in there! :)

I only say that because I wanted so badly to be inside the debate hall in LA...

Back from the audience - it was VERY boring in there!! So I'm back in the media filing center.

Russert and Williams urged us to be silent and you can hear a PIN DROP. People were listening very intently before I left at the first break. I interviewed five audience members and will blog their ideas.

In contrast, the audio in the media filing room is LOUD! Probably to keep us awake. :) move soon!

I'm with y'all. The SNL talking point makes her look like she doesn't have a sense of humor, even if the skit is accurate. Pointing out media bias is generally a winner for Republicans. It doesn't work as well for a Clinton.

What on earth was she thinking???

Is that "bitches get things done" would have been a much better SNL quote ;)

Tell me she didn't just refer to the Saturday night live skit! Doesn't she know that makes her sound whiny?
