Must Love TV: A Girl's Love Of TV Explained

I get asked this question a lot and I figured now will is a good time to answer, people always ask me why I have a somewhat "obsession" with TV. I first got asked this question a couple years ago by a friend of mine and I actually got a little offended by it because they know I have a life (a pretty active life) but they also know that my DVR is essentially full by the end of the day.

Let me begin by saying that yes I am a TV addict and no I am not ashamed to say that I am. There is something about TV and entertainment in general that I have always been attracted to. I have made it no secret that I would love to work in the entertainment industry (preferably as an actress but really entertainment report/blogger is just as great for me). So I decided to go ahead and a write out a TV blog here on blogher because I felt that it was a nice fit for me. Am I a featured member? No Am I making money off my blogs? No but honestly I love every minute of writing a recap and review of shows that I love in hopes of bringing people together to discuss the show.

See that is the thing about movies, music, tv, fashion etc... even the most diverse of us can all agree on liking/loving different forms of entertainment, it brings us together and opens up a discussion about something that we enjoy. That is probably one of the biggest reasons that I enjoy TV so much, I can watch an episode of say Modern Family on Wednesday and immediately go and discuss the episode with different people through Facebook/Twitter/Message boards etc. I just love how one thing can bring so many different people together.

Another big reason that I am TV obsessed is due in part to my dear father who passed away a little over 3 years ago. My father who worked crazy hours at work would come home and we would sit down and watch classic episodes of Lucy, Dick Van Dyke, Andy Griffith and so many more classics (yep this girl was raised on classic TV people) I remember sitting there watching the different shows and immediately knowing what I wanted to do with my life, I wanted some part of the entertainment industry. Of course when I told my parents this they figured it was a phase but I still kept that dream/wish alive even at the age of 26.

The last reason that I just love movies, TV, music etc... is that it gives me the chance to escape into different worlds, different situations. Something can be said for shows that start off having some type of problem and it being resolved within 30-60 minutes, how great would life be if we could solve our problems so quickly. I love escaping into the world of Fairy Tales (Once Upon A Time) vampires (True Blood/Vampire Diaries) hilarious nerds (Big Bang Theory) and families that still spend time with each other and cause comedic antics (Modern Family). Like I said earlier my father passed away 3 years ago and it killed me (he had a heart attack while at work and that morning he seemed perfectly fine and healthy) I delved into the world of entertainment even more trying to distract myself from feelings of pain but it was through TV that I was able to actually deal with the pain and depression. I was able to cry during some of the most depressing moments in TV (Criminal Minds when Hayley, Hotch's ex, gets shot while on the phone with him when he is trying to race to save her) and I was able to laugh through the light hearted moments (Big Bang Theory when Penny fell in the shower and Sheldon had to take her to the hospital, then at the end sang Soft Kitty to her). So I can say with certainity that TV helped me in my journey to getting over depression and being there for others in my life.

With all that said this year I decided to go ahead and re-do my blog on blogher and make it an entertainment blog. It will focus mostly on TV, recaps/reviews, but I will also get into movies and other entertainment news. I also admit here that I love award shows and I will definitely do a special blog for the Emmy's that will be going on tomorrow evening (review of the actual show but also a review of the styles on the red carpet). I hope whomever decides to read my blog enjoys it and I can only hope that it opens discussions and brings people together the way that I know entertainment brings people together.

I do want to go ahead and give everyone a heads up of the shows that I will be doing recaps/reviews for:

Monday: Bones, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Mike and Molly, Partners (new comedy)

Tuesday: Raising Hope, New Girl, The Mindy Project (new comedy), Ben & Kate (new comedy), The New Normal, Happy Endings.

Wednesday: The Middle, Modern Family, Suburgatory, Nashville, Criminal Minds, CSI,

Thursday: The Vampire Diaries (returns Oct.11), The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Glee, 30 Rock, The Office, possibly Beauty and the Beast (I will write a review of the 1st episode)

Friday: Grimm

Saturday: Free Day

Sunday: Once Upon A Time, Revenge, 666 Park Avenue (new drama)

In October I will also be adding in American Horror Story as a show I recap/review. I so see that it is a huge list but like I said, I DVR everything and I actually do the reviews late at night after everyone is asleep (what can I say, I am a night owl thanks to my former job working as a blackjack dealer at the casino overnight). Like I said I hope that you all enjoy what I have to write and we get to start a little discussion.
