Probably everyone on here that's married has a story about their inlaws & their quirks. So here's mine.
Ever since I started dating my husband, I noticed that my now inlaws have been the crafy types. The classic 1950s family that always had a fresh pie in the window & was constantly working on a quilt.
These are my inlaws & no I'm not exaggerating. Every time I'd visit whether it was a holiday or not, there it was, a plate of cookies just out of the oven. What was my mother in law working on? A quilt. What were on the walls? Framed embroidery & needlepoint. It only got crazier from here. I remember one Labor Day very well where a large chunk of my inlaws showed up. There were so many in the patio that for a moment I forgot that they had a pool. they were there & they were talking about crafts. Once inside, each of them pulled out the quilt or tapestry they were working on, or even a scrapbook. Me? I'm an amateur guitarist but I didn't have my guitar on me. I'm also an amateur video editor & shucks I didn't pack my laptop with Final Cut on it.
I know each family is different but to me, this one seemed perfect. Like the ones you read about & see on tv. A classic 50s sitcom. My family would offer you food if you came over & plenty for you to take home but not so much with the crafts. So naturally this was intimidating.
Over the years, I started getting used to their 1950s nature but I still find it so saccharine sweet.
I think they rubbed off on me because I got a sewing machine two weeks ago. I justified it by saying if I was to hand sew my Halloween costume, it'd be ready by Christmas. The machine cut the job in half & then some. I've also hemmed some pants which saved me some cash so I guess you can say the machine has paid for itself. So you can add amateur seamstress to my resume. But not quilter.
