My Favorite Holiday is Pig Day

When you ask someone what their favorite holiday is, you expect to hear answers like "My birthday" or "Christmas!" or even "Halloween" but if you ask me what my favorite holiday is, I'll say loudly (and proudly) Pig Day! Today, March 1, is Pig Day. Unfortunately, I've been too busy to celebrate properly. I've been so busy that I've already told my team that I'm taking the day off next year.

How would I have celebrated if I wasn't so darn busy? That's easy!

I'd have celebrated Pig Day by watching some great pig movies or TV shows. Who's your favorite pig? Arnold or Babe? I vote Arnold and luckily I can surf the Virtual Hooterville Museum and see plenty of Arnold paraphernalia.

I might have also written some pig poetry or done some pig sketches, I've had a good bit of fun with both during Pig Day parties in the past. (If you'd like to share some pig poetry or show us your pig personality drawing, I'd be happy to applaud your efforts. That's what the comment box is for, after all.) OK fine, here's my latest pig sketch... what does it say about me?

If I had the day off, to celebrate Pig Day appropriately, I'd surf some blogs...

  • Bacon Bra and Beyond
  • Coffee and Bacon
  • Bacon Brownies
  • People do some interesting things with pork products. And I know some folks who go hog wild crazy over chocolate covered bacon.... (go ahead, you can confess to being one of those people.) TW is feeling bad for me because she knows how much I love Pig Day. She's considering cooking me a dinner that's shaped like a pig. I have no idea how she'll manage this, but if anyone can do it, it would be TW.(Don't worry, if she does it I'll take a photo and share it in the comments.)

I might also take some time to surf through my pig videos:

    My pig photos:

And make a donation to a Pig Rescue facility (Rooterville is my personal favorite and my photos and videos were taken there.) Pigs are people too -- and they need your support.

Happy Pig Day to you and yours. What's your favorite way to celebrate Pig Day? You do celebrate, don't you?

While I'm a big Pig Day fan, I draw the line at pet pigs. :-)

I love to eat bacon, but I love the smell of it more. Seriously--we need a bacon-scented candle. Quick, someone tell Yankee Candle, then give me credit.

That's sad. I do that sort of thing as well. I don't like hitting stuffs! I hit and killed a deer once. I cried for days about it.

He hit a pig out in the country once, in Alachua County. It ran off. He spent days wandering around looking for the pig that he hit to try and save it. He never did find it. He was very sad. You can still make him tear up if you mention it.

    Hey Jen 5 pts

I have never heard of pig day!

Also, back in January I was driving home from the Brooksville Raid when I saw a pig running across the road. I couldn't believe my eyes at first. WTF A PIG JUST RAN ACROSS THE ROAD! (I dont' know why I was shocked I have seen emu running alongside the road) It was a cute little escapee. But then several weeks later I saw the poor little thing lying dead on the side of the road. Someone hit it. I felt so bad.

Really. It comes as a surprise to a lot of people since I'm very good at supporting other people's bacon addiction. I won't eat it. I hate the smell of it. Heck I don't even want to look at it.

But... again... I'm very good at supporting other people's bacon addiction, unless it smells up my house with bacon odors. So, do you have a recipe for these cookies? They are very Pig Day worthy.

Some people celebrate it by eating/enjoying pork. Others by eating/enjoying pork substitutes.

You can definitely tell the kids you celebrated Pig Day - show them the piggy videos and photos - tell a pig story at bedtime. It will be awesome, you'll do it every year.

Does it count if we ate Morningstar vegetarian bacon for dinner?  I thought I was phoning it in on the dinner preparation front, but now I can just say that we were celebrating Pig Day.

That personality test thingy has been available for about 10 years... the first Pig Day I celebrated was in 1997 and all of my Pig Day party attendees drew their pigs. I've done one every year, ever since. :-)

Pigs are interesting eaters (err I have a lot more video than just this one) -- I've never fed a pig hummus, I should have tried that. Someday, maybe.

    Hey Denise,

Honestly, I had no idea. I guess my favorite way to celebrate Pig Day is by eating hummus with careless abandon, like certain porcines I know.

    Great post!
