It was just about a year ago that I hung out my “freelance writer” shingle.
Since then, I've been writing steadily for The Health Central Network and In The Trenches Productions, with a few side jobs here and there. I've learned a lot about blogs, social networking sites, keywords, ads, the importance of a website, and a bit about html. I've read and studied and networked, and it has not been in vein. In fact, it has been a labor of love.
A very interesting assignment came my way recently. I was asked to write a blog post of a particular length and using very specific key words. It was challenging and fun to work the phrases in just right. I was pleased to hear that I did a “super job” and that the client would be returning. Icing on the cake? Prompt payment.
I've also been contacted about writing a humor piece for a print magazine article in the very near future. I don't think of myself as a humor writer, but I submitted a few things over the past year that were well received. I'll never sell myself short again.
After one year on the job, I can't call myself an old pro, and I still can't say I'm a full-timer, but I am successful and have a sense of bigger and better opportunities just over the horizon.
