My Menu for the Week on a Super Tight Budget

 

This week is a tight one.  I had just $50 to spend on groceries.  We are a family of 5 and three of us are teenagers!  How in the world do I do this?  I took a deep breath and Emily and I headed to Wal-Mart to get groceries.  I didn’t even have coupons to take so this would be a serious stretch of the imagination.  But I knew we could do it!

 

Here’s what we bought:  Head of romaine lettuce, cucumber, 1 broccoli crown, package of Dill Ranch mix, sour cream, egg nog, whole chicken for $0.88 per pound, linguine, 1 jar of alfredo sauce, sweet potatoes, 1 bag of Pepperidge Farm stuffing, 1 can of green beans, frozen pie crusts, Cool Whip, 1 loaf of French bread that was on clearance from the bakery, Hamburger Helper, 1 box of small shells pasta, 1 small block of Velveeta cheese, corn on the cob, brown sugar, butter sticks and 1 box of Little Debbie Christmas Tree cakes.  I got it all for under $50!

 

What I knew I had on hand at home: Milk, 6 eggs, tortillas, bacon, grits, potatoes, 1 can of salmon, 1 pound of frozen turkey, cube steak, pork loins (We were blessed from mamaw for those!), frozen brats and some carrots and a some other things.  Our cupboards weren’t completely bare, (although for some reason it felt like it) but we were going to have to be creative. So here is how the menu for the week turned out!
