We added a fourth bed this weekend. In it I planted yellow corn (upper right quarter), white corn (lower left quarter), cucumbers (upper left corner) and watermelon (lower right corner). Intersecting in the shape of a cross are giant sunflowers (after the heads dry you can eat the seeds). I covered the bed with dead leaves for mulch and nutrients.

The other beds are covered with grass clippings for the mulch and nutrient value. In the bed in the lower right of the photo, where I had had all the lettuce, I planted carrots (all but four heads of lettuce have been pulled and consumed), mustard, radishes and more lettuce.

The broccoli had caterpillar damage but I sprayed both sides of each leaf, and the ground around each plant, with a homemade dishsoap (I use Seventh Generation dishsoap) water and cayenne pepper spray. No more caterpillars but we'll see if I was too late. Hopefully broccoli is still in our future, the leaves are looking pretty good.

The pole beans are really taking off and I'll be training them to the teepee soon. I also staked some of the tomato plants using the last of the poles from our discarded screen house. In the bed in the upper right of the photo, I've used cherry tree branches to stake the cucumber (you can train it to grow *up*) and the canteloupe (same).

I've used found stepping stones (which is why they don't match) in between the beds and a Chinese dog statue from a garage sale ($20!) for decoration. (we've had him for about a year but he looks good in his new spot).

The first tomato! I've only ever gotten my tomatoes to this size before so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one!

first green bell pepper:

A new crookneck squash. I've got several starting but this was the easiest one to photograph.

I've got more beds in the works. We bought seed for a giant pumpkin, now I just have to find the spot to grow it!
