My Recent Reading Log: It's an Eclectic Mix

Any Good Books Lately?

I really enjoy reading and I am often reading several books at once. However, I will say - I am THE slowest reader... it's maddening. When Josh and I are reading something at the same time it's a running joke that he can go make himself a sandwich and come back and I'll be ready to turn the page. Once Aidan can really read on his own - I will officially be the slowest reader in the house. Until then the only slower reader then me is our kindergartner. Fantastic!

Anyway, my slowness doesn't impact my love for books. I love. love. love. them. I so enjoy going into a book store and browsing the shelves and hanging there all day - I literally fantasize about that... Is that weird? Oh well...

So here's the stack of books on my nightstand, in my office or on my iPad that I'm currently reading. For some reason I'm on a Martha Stewart kick. Just what is her secret? Like her or not... you have to admit she's a pretty remarkable business woman. Parlaying her interest in cooking, entertaining, and decorating into a multimedia conglomerate is truly impressive. Plus, she's elevated homemaking to new highs to be sure.

So I've recently purchased from Amazon (I always buy my books used... always)... Being MarthaThe World According to MarthaThe Martha Rules (the one she wrote just after her stint in the slammerand Martha Inc.

I really love reading about women who've taken their passion to do something that has such a positive impact on others.

So what when I'm not reading about the queen of domesticity... I've been reading a lot of fiction. I just opened up Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern after finishing up The Typewriter Girl by Alison Atlee. So clearly I'm into current bestsellers right now. I figure if you go with what most people are enjoying you probably won't be disappointed. My philosophy is to give a book at least fifty pages to grab me... if it doesn't in the first fifty I give myself permission to put it down and move on.

Now some books that I've read recently that I really enjoyed were... Pillars of the Earth and Gone Girl. Both books had me riveted. Pillars is a bit of an undertaking given it is a million pages long and Gone Girl is so fantastically written and twisted... I couldn't get enough of it.

Given my proclivity to slowness with the written word, I'm a huge fan of audiobooks. Especially considering I can knock out a book (or listen to a large portion of it) on my ride up to our home in Michigan, mow the lawn and drive back into the city. That's at least six or seven hours of good book listening time.

In researching for my reading list post - I came across this reading list on StumbleUpon. Pretty interesting choices... I know from that list I'll be hitting Amazon for some purchases soon.

I know I want to read The Omnivore's Dilemma. So I just purchased it on Amazon used books for id="mce_marker".98. Not bad. I also, just recently purchased The Mission of Motherhood due to the fact that Heather at God Centered Mom recommended it. I need a little inspiration for this very significant and important role of mommy (and all that means) to these little ones of mine.

One of these days I'm going to play hooky and take my books and curl up on my love seat or better yet leave the house and read all day long. Aahhh a girl can dream.

I hope you all are able to take advantage of some quiet time and enjoy a good book. I would love to get some good recommendations as well.

Take care now,
