Independence Day Comes Early! Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to Divorce!

It's not that I hate Tom Cruise, per se -- although I do find him rather *glib* -- it's more that, y'know, I celebrate freedom. And today, y'all? Katie Holmes is free. According to TMZ, Katie Holmes filed for divorce yesterday citing irreconcilable differences, a move TMZ says "blindsided" her husband of five years. Holmes is asking for sole legal custody of the couple's six-year-old daughter Suri....more

The Money and Food Connection

Perhaps the way I saw myself most in Geneen Roth's memoir, Lost and Found, was the way I least wanted to -- the money and food connection. It's an issue I've examined before and would really prefer not to do it again. I want to hide it in a closet and not think about it much the same way Roth funneled her money into her Bernie Madoff savings account and well... we all know how that turned out. ...more
There is definitely a correlation between money and food for me.  I over indulge with both and ... more

Would You End Up With More Money?

I really try not to think about money too much. If I think about it too much I end up going down the path of questioning if we have enough, if we are doing the right things with our money, if we spend too much of it, etc. I'm sure many of you know the drill. In her memoir, Lost and Found, Geneen Roth performed an exercise at a retreat that stopped me in my tracks and totally flummoxed me. ...more
I think I would end up with less.  The biggest problem I have with money is that I always seem ... more

What Do You Value?

After Geneen Roth found out that she and her husband had lost all their money, she was shell-shocked. She was also lucky. They didn't lose their home, they were still working and they stayed afloat. As she tells us in her memoir, Lost and Found: One Woman's Story of Losing Her Money and Finding Her Life, the only thing of value that they lost was their money. ...more
I value the time I get to spend with my family.  Sometimes it feels like we are all over the ... more

Money is Expensive

After finishing Geneen Roth's Lost and Found: One Woman's Story of Losing Her Money and Finding Her Life, I had a whole lot of thoughts about money floating in my head. I think there's one that will stick with me for a long, long time and that's the idea that we pay for money, and it's expensive. ...more
We definitely pay with moments.  We take jobs we don't like, which take us away from our family ... more

Do You Act From Love?

In Kim Edwards The Lake of Dreams, Lucy often comes off as angry and harsh. She's obviously unhappy but she's not really sure why. As a reader you question the motivations behind her actions -- is she acting out of love? Or from anger?...more
I think that I act more out of love. For me when I am feeling anger I tend to bottle it up more ... more

How To Get Stolen Content Removed

One innocent day, I was looking around the "behind the scenes" of my site Bringing Up Bronwyn. If you aren't a blogger, there is a dashboard where you post from and you can add nifty tools and much, much more. Since I use wordpress as a platform, there is a spam blocker called Aksimet. It catches all the yucky comments like the stupid stuff that ends up in your email inbox. Occasionally Akismet will catch real comments by mistake. So I check in there on a semi-regular basis for real comments. I was surprised by what I found. ...more

10 Things We Learned from Celebrity Splitsville: 2010

Last year was a dangerous year to be famous.   A-Listers were dropping like... dead celebrities.   It wasn't pretty. This year, the glitterati took a collective sigh of relief as Death turned his cold gaze elsewhere -- only to find that 2010, sadly, was destined to be remembered as the year that [celebrity] love died. Dramatic, I know.  But also totally true.  To prove it -- here are ten lessons learned based on ten two headed tabloid monsters who met their bloody end in 2010.  Try saying that ten times fast.   ...more
