Single? Then You Know The Pity Face

I first noticed it at my 10-year high school reunion in 2005. When asked if I was married or have children, I said no. I'm single. And then it happened: The Pity Face. It's a look of genuine concern. Like something is horribly wrong with you. Like you've just admitted you have a terminal disease and have roughly one month to live. I had no idea how to respond....more

Dominique Got Canned: Do You Have A Plan?

Let's not gloss over it -- when Dominique Browning got let go from Conde Nast, she was in a better position than most of us. She didn't have much debt. She owned two houses. She had investments. She had options that meant that she was able to take the time to get back on her feet. That's a luxury that most of us don't have. ...more

Stroller: Slow Love, Lost Love or Love Never Found?

In Dominique Browning's memoir, Slow Love, she spends a lot of time remembering and questioning a past relationship. In the book Browning calls him Stroller, a name that he chose for himself after rejecting Walker. Walker isn't his real name either, she chose it because he's best at walking away. And well, that sums up her relationship with Stroller. ...more

Right View of Republican Debate: Bachmann And Romney Make Big Impressions

It was like watching every expectation I had for her (and every pre-written joke about her Palin-like accent) just melt away in front of my eyes. The comedian was speechless. She was even more speechless when she noticed that Michele seemed not only genuinely qualified to be in the race, but downright giddy with excitement about it. I've never met a happy politician. Maybe that's what we've been missing all along....more

Media Declares Open Season on Political Spouses

The media may say that they're just reporting the news, but what signs of restraint or maturity have you seen in the coverage given to the numerous and varied "truth is stranger than fiction" tales of people married to politicians?
