The Loneliest Mother I've Seen

I see your eyes duck our way more times than I can count. Kids spilling off my lap, I steady myself against my husband’s leg and we laugh as the hay ride tosses us back and forth. I Choose My Kids Over Friends and Me-Time

A friend is having a fabulous 40th birthday getaway in a few months. It involves a short flight and a drive and some fabulous scenery and spa and an overnight stay at a great house. For the first time, I respected my body. I realized that there was nothing wrong with my body. I saw my body as integral to my identity. I wanted to show it off, and decorate it joyously, and hone my personal style so that I could understand it on new levels. When I started to dress in a way that made me look amazing and feel amazing, I finally stopped actively, continually, exhaustingly hating my body. ...more

The Beauty of a Woman Up on Her Soapbox Speaking Her Truth

Driving to work this morning, I tried to see how a raging Mother Nature could translate to something in an actual woman, and how that could be seen as beautiful. What occurred to me was the beauty of a woman on a soapbox speaking her truth with utter conviction -- a woman full of righteous indignation over a wrong that must be made right. ...more
