Unfriending and Unfollowing During This Election

As the election comes to a fever pitch with only a few days to go until the fate of the nation is sealed for another four years, more than any other election, I think I'm going through politics burnout and it's all due to social media. I have never had another period of time when I've been more annoyed by things said online, spoken not in a lighthearted way that holds promise that we can put our preferred political party to the side after the election in order to solve issues. Instead, things I've seen in black-and-white in my Twitter stream or Facebook status updates have made me see people in an entirely new light... and usually not a good one. ...more
I won't unfriend people but if they are overly annoying, I will hide all their posts from my feed. more

NaBloPoMo Poetry Contest: Sestinas

In honour of NaBloPoMo's April theme -- POEM -- as well as National Poetry Month, we're going to look at four types of fixed form poems. Fixed form poetry is meant to free the mind by providing a structure much in the same way a house frees the person who lives inside to focus on things other than the elements outside. The first form we're going to look at is the collapsing sestina. ...more

Join Us for Daily Blogging with April's NaBloPoMo

It's that time again; time to commit to posting every day for a full month by joining in with NaBloPoMo. The point? Well, beyond the endurance factor -- of becoming a writing athlete -- there's the benefit from daily writing. I use it as a way to warm up before getting into book writing. And then there's the community aspect: joining NaBloPoMo is like joining a gym. You're writing in a group and feeding off that for motivation rather than writing alone. So what is the NaBloPoMo theme of the month? ...more
