Why Spanish School Lunches Beat Ours By A Mile

Sushi Love

Sushi is one of my favourite foods. Luckily for me, countless great sushi operations have opened all over Halifax in the past few years, so there are lots of ways for me to feed my addiction. The boy and I eat sushi fairly regularly and it just so happens that we have had some cool sushi-related experiences lately that I wanted to share with you:...more

How do you start planning a wedding on a tight budget??

How do you plan a dream wedding on a very limited budget? Since getting engaged in March, most of my free time has been in relation to the BIG DAY! The ideas are all circling my head. Something I've dreamt about forever is finally going to become a reality!  What I thought would be a great time quickly turned into the worst version of 20(thousand) questions EVER!  And everyone has questions for things I just can't answer yet.  ...more

Head in the Clouds of Hawaii

Last night, lying in bed with my husband, I Googled triathlons and Hawaii.  If we're going to think about traveling for a family trip and a triathlon, why not go to Hawaii.  As I scrolled through the races, I scoffed aloud at the short distances.  A half mile swim?  Pa!  A six mile run?  Piece of cake!  A 20 mile bike ride?  Um - not my favorite, but I bet with some practice, not an issue!  An ironman?  A DOUBLE ironman?  Hmmm - could I?...more

The Scribbler et al

Oh, I love fun things! And look what I found today! For FREE! I was watching "TED Talks: Smart Laughs" on NetFlix this afternoon. One of the speakers was Ze Frank, who is a genius at comedy and software programming. He had a terrific presentation, "Ze Frank's Web Playroom"  In addition, he is wacky and comes up with the FUNNIEST stuff. If you have time to spare, or need a break when you don't, try his web site out for size....more

Boat-hitching

Since I moved into a new apartment a couple of months ago, which is across the street from a very cool Library, I have made a commitment to start borrowing books instead of buying them (at least part of the time). I recently figured out how to borrow e-books and download them onto my Kobo e-reader - cool, huh? ...more

A Henry Coe Geocaching Adventure

I had a fabulous long day of geocaching and hiking at Henry Coe State park in the Hunting Hollow area yesterday, April 28, 2012, with my good friend, Sharon, otherwise know as Bykenut in the geocaching world. I'm Hykenut. So we're a nutty team!...more

California Must-Do's?

Hi everyone! My bf and I would like to take a road trip in California in the Fall...we hope to have about 9 days to explore and we would likely be starting in LA, ending in San Fran. We are on a tight budget and are interested in things related to food/wine, outdoors (ocean, forest, hiking, geocaching, camping, etc), neat shops, hidden gems, art and fashion, etc. Any suggestions welcome! Tips for great affordable accommodations are also welcome! Thank y'all :)
