Could You Go On a "Style Diet?" Take the 15:30 Challenge

Here are two things I'm willing to bet are true about most of you: 1. You wear the same things over and over. 2. You do not wear everything in your closet. Oh, sure, this doesn't apply to everyone, but I suspect that the majority of you are nodding in agreement. I also suspect that at least some of you (dare I say, again, a majority?) feel a little guilty about this, especially about that last part, the part where you don't wear some portion of your wardrobe. Maybe it's time you did something about that. ...more

I really like this idea, of highlighting some group of pieces that don't get worn and making the ... more

(VIDEO) Putting it All Together: How You Give Back

Little known fact about me: I cannot watch myself on television. Or any kind of video whatsoever. Which is killing me today because I really want to watch this clip, if only to see Ree and Michelle. Because my god they are both adorable. (Honestly, I may have to suck it up and watch the entire thing, rather than muting it and cringing the entire way through, which is what I did this morning.) ...more

(VIDEO) Putting it All Together: What Are You Wearing for a Day In? A Night Out?

What are you wearing to stay in? To go out? Spanx? A girdle? Both? (One is plenty, just so you know.) Sheila and Loralee spent a morning recently hanging out at Pioneer Woman's lodge, dishing about what they wear for a day in and a night out; Ree stopped by to talk about jeans (her go-to for day) and the LBD (not in her closet). Wish you could have been there? Well, you can! Thanks to the miracle of video. ...more

The Pixie Cut: Why I Went Short (Would You?)

A few weeks ago I went to a salon, pulled my hair back in a ponytail and asked the hairdresser to cut it off. What she placed in my hand was 15 inches of my hair tied neatly in a yellow hairband. That hair is on its way to Locks of Love, an organization that provides hairpieces to economically disadvantaged children suffering from long term medical hair loss. A friend of mine grows her hair out the requisite 12 inches every couple of years and then cuts it off to donate, and I've always admired her for it....more

Why You Need a Little Black Dress

I am a relentless advocate of the carefully edited closet; I believe that the pieces in your wardrobe should move easily from work to weekend and from day to evening. But I also believe that there are pieces -- yoga pants, for example -- that cannot do multiple duty (yoga pants are not dress up clothes, under any circumstances, ever). Most often, we are willing to buy super casual pieces that cannot be dressed up, but we balk at buying dressy pieces, because they can't be repurposed for the grocery or the office or the sofa. ...more
