I Did Not Expect to Be Hurt or Loved By Blogging

When I started blogging, I thought it'd just be me and my laptop. I'd just be posting interesting items from my online shopping experience here, and I'd have a million readers who'd thank me for showing them the way with gorgeous stuff for their babies, toddlers and themselves. Come back when you've stopped laughing. ...more

The Question Every Working Mother Hates To Hear

I work outside the home. I also have 2 daughters -- 7 and 6 years old. The other day as I was dropping my girls off at school, one of the moms said something to me, to the effect of how she could never leave her kids in order to work. I've been dealing with these types of comments for years, and it never gets any less annoying. Why do stay-at-home moms feel like they have the right to say these ridiculous things? And what's an appropriate response?...more
Love that response! Can't we just get over already and live our own lives? Rise above, ladies! ... more

Project Runway Recap: The Top 8 Rock Out

Oddly, only half rock out…the other half make Grandma clothes! After poor Pepto Bryce was auf'ed last week on Project Runway, we're down to eight designers. Sparkly goth Heidi comes out to tell the remaining designers that "Image is everything" and to meet Tim Gunn at some music hall....more

Do You Really Know What Your Kids are Eating at School?

While filming Two Angry Moms and writing Lunch Wars Amy Kalafa found many surprising things in school lunches. Some of the caffeinated beverages and fried foods in the school cafeteria were expected, but learning just how much of this junk food was being served at school was surprising. Things like candy being used as a reward in the classroom made her realize that kids were exposed to a lot more junk food than even she thought. ...more

Why I'm Not Forever 21

My friend Jessica is going to take family portraits for us this weekend.  So I, of course, was on the hunt for the perfect outfit.  I've found it's easier for me to buy a really cute new outfit and then rummage around in the boys closets to find something that matches me.What?  It's true....more
Did it fall apart? That's the other thing I didn't mention... the "fine quality" of clothing ... more

Why You Should Run Your Life Like a Business

There might be more published advice about how to find happiness than anything else.  And it all seems to spin from the notion of balance.  Work hard,  play hard and rest often.  Take deep breaths when you’re feeling stress.  Leave the office at a reasonable hour.  Walk barefoot through the grass.  Avoid drinking wine after beer (or is it wine after liquor?).  Stop and smell the roses. I actually think a lot of that advice is completely misguided.  (Except for not mixing alcohols.  That’s not a lesson that needs to be repeated.) ...more

Inventions We'd Like To See

There's been a lot of talk in the beauty industry lately about multi-tasking products. You've probably seen ads for some of them:  eye creams that disguise and treat, self-tanners that also moisturize and exfoliate, toothpastes that clean and whiten. But I think we can do better. We are living in a modern, industrialized culture, after all. Humans have traveled in space. We can shop for a dizzying array of products that we don't need, online, 24 hours a day, without changing out of our pajamas. Drive-through hamburgers are available at every major intersection.  And there's enough reality TV programming to fill every channel, around the clock, for the rest of our lifetimes.
