Race Report: PPTC Cherry Tree 10-miler

Yesterday I ran the Prospect Park Track Club Cherry Tree 10-miler with Tracy and Tara. Actually, it might be more accurate to say I ran the race thanks to them....more

The Problem with Food

As I write this, I'm trying to sit through the very uncomfortable feeling of fullness that accompanies eating. Just trying to process the discomfort--which, in my case, is both physical and emotional--makes me realize that it's not only been a while since I've tried to sit with these feelings, but it's also been a while since I've blogged at all about my relationship with food, eating, and hunger....more

Accomplish Your 2012 Goals: Free Half-Marathon Training Plan

This weekend has been pretty busy. It snowed most of the day yesterday, and it's been freezing. Definitely a departure from the mild winter we'd previously been having. Because of the temperatures, I ended up spending a lot of time inside working on putting together training plans for Team Challenge Brooklyn since I recently found out that I'll be working as the Run Coach! Getting the plans coordinated has been a lot of work, but I've loved every minute of it....more

Monday Run-down: January 9

Well, we've made it through the first week of 2012. Time flies! And since it's Monday, it's time to recap last week and prepare for the one ahead.I'm really happy with how my week turned out. If you'll recall, my goal was to run a total of 15 miles and incorporate some non-running exercise into my routine....more

This Picture Just Kills Me

Every morning I get an email from Groupon, announcing its latest deals. Inevitably, I find myself wondering how they select the images that will go along with the offer. Sometimes, it's clearly an image of the restaurant or business being advertised. Often, though, it's very obviously a stock photo. It's those instances that really make me wonder--does Groupon have a photo editor (or several) who select these pictures? Or are companies asked to supply images when they liaise with Groupon?...more

Embrace: Responding

For a long time, my mom and I have had this joke about a website we want to create. It would be called Doctor Commonsense, and would consist of really straightforward "problems" that the good doctor would solve. An example:"Hungry? Try eating something! You'll be surprised at how well it works!"...more

Looking Back on 2011

I've started, stopped, and erased this post 3 times today. This is attempt #4. I'm determined to make it the one that sticks. I've been trying to figure out why I'm having a hard time writing a year-end post (especially considering I'm under absolutely no obligation to do so) and I think it's because overall 2011 kind of sucked. I mean, it had its highs, but for the most part it's full of a lot of stuff I want to leave behind me. More than anything, when I think about the past year, I think about how much I was floundering....more

Dietary Scare Tactics

If there's one thing I really can't abide, it's fear mongering. For one thing, we have to deal with far too much of it on a daily basis. For another, it's based entirely on the notion that rather than getting the full information about something, you'll get partial information and then be so distracted by your gut emotional reaction that you'll abandon the idea of getting the full story altogether, and end up doing something ill-advised, poorly researched, or just plain stupid....more

Under Where?

Here's a question: when it comes to running shorts, do you wear anything under them?...more
Ha, love this post, good for you. I love the ex officio line of travel/exercise briefs. My sis ...more
