Why Can't A Mom Enjoy Elf On The Shelf At Christmas?

Warning. A "cranky, I've had it rant" follows. Hang with me, okay? Well here we are, barely into the month of December and already I've seen more bitterness about what some moms do over others in terms of the Christmas season. I've already read an ugly handful of articles that mock moms just like me, with dozens of people patting them on the back. And you know what? I'm already sick of it. ...more

Banish Your Family And Prepare Yourself Because The Purple One Is On SNL This Weekend

I have instructed my family to get all their requests in on Saturday before 11:28 p.m. because by 11:30 I’ll be in a trance. I need those two minutes to mentally prepare for the beginning of a Saturday Night Live that won’t soon be forgotten, an SNL that will include (deep, meditating breath) Prince. Did that register in your mind? If so, did you flap your hands before fanning your face trying to get your blood pressure under control? ...more

Two Women Made the MasterChef Finale, So Why Were Their Shoes The Focus?

This week, the two finalists from Season 5 of MasterChef competed for the title of America’s Best Home Chef. After first being chosen from a pool of thousands, these extremely talented, self-taught women withstood three months of grueling challenges to become the last ones standing. And, incidentally, they joined other women from the international MasterChef shows when they became part of the first women’s-only finale on MasterChef U.S. ...more

Are My Facebook Posts Obnoxious?

The messages that started this post were a few of the comments I received. I know most of them were meant to be sarcastic because only my family, where sarcasm is a dominant gene, and friends, whom if not connoisseurs of sarcasm don't last long, are my friends on Facebook. So I know they were just teasing... sort of... kind of... right? Or are they nicely, with humor, trying to tell me something else? Does posting this kind of thing make me obnoxious? Is it offensive? Does it mean that I'm unfeeling or out of touch? Am I a show-off and just plain nasty? ...more

Moms in New Jersey Can Now Ban Dads from the Delivery Room

A ruling in New Jersey now allows mothers to ban fathers from the delivery room. Citing privacy laws afforded all patients in choosing who gets to be at their bedside, the judge ruled in favor of Rebecca Deluccia by allowing her to keep Steven Plotnick out of the room. Honestly, I didn't think this was even an issue. Surely mothers in labor can choose who is and is not allowed in the room, right? ...more
