Redefining Our Ideal Body

I thought that one of the most powerful messages in William D. Lassek, M.D. and Steven J. C. Gaulin's Why Women Need Fat: How "Healthy" Food Make Us Gain Excess Weight and the Surprising Solution to Losing It Forever was that our bodies are at their best when they feel healthiest, not when they were at a certain size or looked a certain way. What the authors were saying is that our thinnest point may not be our healthiest. ...more

Do You Know Your Natural Weight?

In their book Why Women Need Fat: How "Healthy" Food Make Us Gain Excess Weight and the Surprising Solution to Losing It Forever, authors William D. Lassek, M.D. and Steven J. C. Gaulin suggest that we have a natural weight. They advocate that this natural weight is based on our genetics and that our weight is much harder to change than we've been led to believe. Why Women Need Fat: Okay to Gain Weight After Babies?

Why do men find women's hourglass figures attractive? That was the question that let William D. Lassek, M.D. and Steven J. C. Gaulin, Ph.D., down the path to their new book, Why Women Need Fat: How "Healthy" Food Make Us Gain Excess Weight and the Surprising Solution to Losing It Forever. Meal Plan Monday January 2

Happy New Year! I hope you rang in 2012 with yummy food. I know we did. I made what was only my second ever prime rib and it was so much better than my first attempt. Salty, juicy goodness. Then we spend New Year's Day on the couch having a Lord of the Rings movie marathon (extended edition). It was the perfect thing to do since I had one (or two) too many champagne cocktails the night before.

Would You Let A Former Porn Star Read to Your Kids?

What our nervous sideway glances and jeers say is simple: if you let on that you have sex, you're a danger to our children, and possibly to society itself. Never mind if you're a tax-paying, law-abiding, philanthropic citizen otherwise -- the second it becomes known that you have sex or are interested in it, you're immediately labeled unfit. ...more

We've also seen, and maybe felt, that many of us are sick of the story in the media. ...more
