Are My Facebook Posts Obnoxious?

The messages that started this post were a few of the comments I received. I know most of them were meant to be sarcastic because only my family, where sarcasm is a dominant gene, and friends, whom if not connoisseurs of sarcasm don't last long, are my friends on Facebook. So I know they were just teasing... sort of... kind of... right? Or are they nicely, with humor, trying to tell me something else? Does posting this kind of thing make me obnoxious? Is it offensive? Does it mean that I'm unfeeling or out of touch? Am I a show-off and just plain nasty? ...more

Marriage is A Giant Leap of Faith

Last year was hard. The hardest one of all. This month is our eighth wedding anniversary, and we have attended three weddings on three consecutive weekends. Fidelity is in the air, y’all. Surrounded by all this matrimony it’s hard not to pause and reflect on everything that has happened in my own marriage — then, now, since... ...more

The Time FBI Agents Brought My Kids Home at 6:30 AM

The week before school resumed, we let the kids watch Wild Kratts on the iPad each morning when they woke up. They’re happy and quiet, and T and I get a few more minutes to sleep or simply talk quietly before our days begin. You can imagine our horrified surprise the morning then when, after a loud rap on the front door at 6:30, we found the boys standing on the front porch with two FBI agents. I am not kidding....more

Why We Shouldn't Be Interested In Raising Safe Christian Kids

"Look mom! No hands," yelled my eight year old Olivia while out on our bike ride together yesterday. Maybe the first thing on my mind should have been warning her of the potential danger of an eight year old, riding a bike two sizes too big with no hands on a public road. But it wasn't. ...more

The Ultimate Prank: When The Ultrasound Tech Tells You The Wrong Sex

Right before my appointment ended she turned to me and asked, "Are you finding out the sex?" I stopped breathing. Am I? Did I want to find out without my husband? Did I want to find out this time around? Was I ready for this news? But before I could let my brain control my mouth, my lunatic, control freak side took over: "Yes! Can you tell this early?" She confirmed you could and followed up by saying, "Now don't going buying a bunch of sh*t just yet, but I pretty sure it's a girl." ...more

On Naming: What Do You Call Grandma?

My friends ask me what will I be called? In the new-fangled family of which I am a part. I will simply be Grand Mommy. He has a Nana and a Grand Mommy B. I will be more than content with an open and joyful relationship over time. While I say it does not matter “what” he calls me, I don’t think I would fancy being called Patricia. ...more

DIY Antique Window Picture Frame

Well, I finally finished my antique window picture frame. And if I do say so myself, it's pretty fabulous. Here's the deal. When I looked on pinterest and the internet, there were a tons of pictures of these antique windows turned picture frames. But no tutorials or help on actually how to convert it. And not that I'm saying that what I did should be the gold standard, but in an attempt to at least help other sisters (or brothers) out, I thought I'd outline what I did. ...more
