10 Excellent Chapter Books For Young Readers

There are no words to express the joy we felt when our 6-year-old son learned how to read on his own last year. Books have always been important in this house. (With a writer mother and an editor father, it's no surprise.) The Youngster has been read to since he was in my belly, and the nightly story time is still going strong. We've gone through tons of books with this kid, on everything from taco-loving dinosaurs to spaceships cruising by the stars. And now that he's an official Big Boy in the first grade and everything, his interest in chapter books -- more words, less pictures -- has grown. Big time. ...more

It's Not For Attention

"She just dresses/gets tattoos/wears her hair that way to get attention."I've heard it.  You've heard it.  And I'll look at the subject of that phrase, and all I usually ever see is a woman minding her own business, going on with her life and being who she is.  I look her over and always think, "I wish I were her."  ...more

25 Things I’ve Learned in 25 Years

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, this week was my 25th birthday! It was a wonderful day. I started a new job, Dave made my favorite food for dinner (spaghetti!), and my best friend bought me a cake. Definitely a successful birthday. Since 25 is a milestone birthday (a quarter of a century – holy shit) I wanted to write a blog post to commemorate it. In honor of turning 25, I’m sharing today 25 things I’ve learned in 25 years. Some are comical, some are serious, all are true....more

Let Us Prepare – Time For Mercury Retrograde Again, 9/17/15

“People get ready…” Communication planet Mercury will appear to go backwards in the sky on Thursday, September 17, 2015 in relationship focused Libra. The harmony seeking 7th sign of the Zodiac is about partnerships, collaborations, socializing. Don’t be surprised if people from the past - co-workers, lovers, business partners - suddenly pop up to haunt, bite or even please us.Pay attention  to what you write, what you say in order to lessen the possibility of negative impact as you interact with others – slips of the tongue and pen, Freudian or otherwise, can easily occur. Mercury Retrograde is not automatically an event of huge, messy snafus. Back up all the tech stuff, check batteries, be meticulous and be careful. (Jump all over the details.)...more

Stitch Fix Review

I am not one that loves to shop for clothes. In fact I have a couple friends that I take with me when I do shop for clothes for myself.  My friend Sarah is amazing, I would still be wearing mom jeans if it weren't for her!  I recently decided to try Stitch Fix after reading about it on several blogs and having some friends who have loved it. ...more

Gangster Rap Made Me Do It

Man! I LOVE you guys! I have had so many positive responses to my Kim Davis post! I would like to thank Blogher for featuring it yesterday on their website! Several people stated they were glad to know not everyone from Kentucky was like this, or this hateful- or a few other words I will refrain from using. A few said they were glad to know we don't all dress the way she does! Now I refrained from writing about this. It would have negated my article. It is her freedom of religion to dress this way....more
