Mother's Day Theology

Mother’s Day, it seems, has become a sacred festival.  Not many churches across our country fail at least to mention mothers on “their day”, which is this Sunday.  Many churches have mothers and motherhood as the theme of worship and the sermon. Odes to Mom are shared.  Special music is played, often accompanying a slide show of pictures that make everyone cry.  And Proverbs 31 is read – at least verses 28-29 that mention a mother’s children and husband praising her....more

Are You Kidding Me?! What's Good for the Gander Is Good for the Goose

As a life-long feminist, I'm a sucker for any article or book whose headline or title highlights a comparison between females and males.  I read such works with anticipation, interest and a suspicious eye for sexism. (Can't help it, it runs through my veins.)  So, it's natural that a November 7, 2011 NPR article entitled "Why HPV Vaccination of Boys May Be Easier" would prick my curiosity...and boil my blood....more
