Announcing: Voices of the Year '13 Submissions Are Open!

UPDATE: Voices of the Year submissions have closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted and voted! Today we are thrilled to open submissions for one of the centerpieces of BlogHer's annual conference: The 6th annual Voices of the Year! The Voices of the Year initiative (or VOTY, as we sometimes affectionately abbreviate it) gives the entire BlogHer community a chance to spotlight and celebrate the work that touched us most deeply over the past year. Up to 100 well-written, thought-provoking, heart-tugging, and laughter-inducing posts and visuals will be honored as the 2013 Voices of the Year online, including one People's Choice Honoree per category, and then in person on Friday July 26th at the 9th annual BlogHer Conference in Chicago, IL....more

As we read through all of your important post-conference posts, I wondered if others here at BlogHer had a moment this year that really defined the conference for them, that they will look back on and think, "Oh yes, that happened at BlogHer '12. Of course they did. I asked a few staff members who in one way or another shaped your conference this year to share their moment in hopes of inspiring our members to share their moment. This is what they had to say....more

Hair and Femininity: I Cut My Hair and Opened My Eyes

I decided to take the leap. My hair wasn't making me look fatter or skinnier or complementing really anything about me -- it's never been my best feature, it is just my damn hair. I felt good about it, I reminded myself, as I crumpled my picture of Michelle Williams in my sweating fists. ...more
