I Don't Need Your Advice About My Toddler's Sleep Issues

Can I tell you a secret? Other moms piss me off. So I’ve decided to turn my FaceBook freak-outs frustration into a handy, informative blog post. For all y’all who have some advice to give. Yes, this is a community. Yes, your feedback is welcome. Yes, I am a huge proponent of everyone learning from each other. With one small caveat. Before you speak, please say the following words to yourself: I AM NOT A PARENTING GENIUS. (Go ahead. Try it. I’ll wait.)...more

Middle Class Snack Kids

“Middle Class Snack Kid” is a term I made up for people who do not spend a lot on themselves on the whole, but are running themselves into the ground buying food and drink. I coined this term for myself because I needed to diagnose my disease —- the disease being that no matter how much money I make and how little it feels like I spend on myself, I am always living paycheck to paycheck. How can I be so damn broke all the time? Me! The person who doesn’t own a single piece of furniture that wasn’t given to her for free! The person who will wear one pair of jeans until they literally fall apart! The person who will wait until she looks like a crazy mountain woman before she will shell out $40 for a haircut!...more

Escape Summer Reruns and Read These Five Books

Summer is here and not only are the days long, but the evenings feel longer with so little on the television to tempt you. While we acknowledge that Bunheads might just be a summer wonder (not based on the book Bunheads), it feels like we've been watching reruns for months. What should you do when dinner is over and you are ready to ready to relax at the end of a long hot day? Read a book, of course! I've dug through the summer release lists and picked out five books I think can help you get through those long summer evenings. ...more

A Tip Before You Bury Placenta: Call Before You Dig!

My husband is a scientist. He labels everything. He once asked me if we could talk about keeping the refrigerator more organized. He volunteered to make labels. Dairy. Vegetables. Condiments. We had only just moved in together so I bit a hole in my lip and smiled and said "if you'd like to take on that project I will try really hard to put things back." It was never mentioned again. ...more

What's Your Perfect Travel Destination?

In Laura Dave's The First Husband the main character, Annie, is a travel writer. I used to think that being a travel writer had to be one of the most awesome jobs a person could have. I've met a few over the years and yes, it can be a fabulous job but it's still a job and it does have its downsides. I've also learned, like Annie, that's there isn't a perfect travel destination....more

Superstitious!

In Laura Dave's The First Husband, the main character is a little bit superstitious. Annie is convinced that every time she watched the Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck movie Roman Holiday something bad will happen. I can understand why she believes that.
