By day, Cassie Johnston is a graphic designer, but after hours, Cassie is obsessed with all things health and wellness. After gaining the Freshman 50 in college, Cassie had a lightbulb moment at a doctor’s appointment and left the office ready to change her life. Fifty pounds later, a new-found passion for the healthy living was born. This love of all things health and wellness, lead to a second career in food, fitness and motivational writing.
She currently splits her freetime between blogging, recipe development and photography. Her recipes and articles have appeared on websites for major brands and in the pages of glossy food magazines. She blogs daily about her daily fitness and food adventures (and misadventures) at Back to Her Roots.
Cassie lives in Southern Indiana with her husband, Craig, plus their two fur-children, a terrier mix named Rory and a fuzzy gray kitten named Sookie. She’s a big fan of strenuous hikes, bacon, sports, trashy TV and good local beer. She tried her hand at long distance running—completing her first, and probably last, half marathon in 2011—but outdoor adventuring is what really gets her juices flowing. On the top of Cassie’s fitness bucket list? Hiking the Grand Canyon from rim-to-rim.
