All This Mom Wants for Christmas

Dear Santa, I have been an incredibly good girl this year. I haven't accidentally killed or maimed my children, I steam cleaned the carpets at least one time, I do the dishes every damn day, and I put up with tantrums of the most tiring sort with at least a 30-percent patience ratio. I didn't once sell the kids to the circus or package them up to send to New Zealand. We're all still here and breathing, which makes me pretty much the best mom ever. That being the case, there are just a few things I want this Christmas:...more

Working Moms Don't Choose for Their Babies to Die

She was so happy to be a mother, finally. She is one of those women that just is a mother. Even before she had children, she was a mother. Her baby died. At school, during naptime. She just fell asleep and never woke up. And my heart aches for her, for the owners of the preschool, for the teachers that were in the room with her. But the anger that I feel about the unfairness of this situation (for everyone involved), is less than what I am feeling for the unrelenting, hate mongers who commented on the news story: Women that choose to work, are choosing this for their children....more
That is so sad.  I can't believe that people are trying to put the blame on her for working to ... more

I'm Not Really a Mommy Blogger Anymore

I've been awash in "they grow up so fast" as my oldest son just "graduated" from Kindergarten last week. I wrote about my thoughts about how he grew and changed this year on my personal blog with the background thought that I won't always be able to share every last little bit about his life, his fears, and how much his mommy loves him for the general reading public. Lara at Overstuffed recently wrote about how she doesn't really qualify herself as a "mommy blogger" anymore... because those kids just keep a'growin. What about you? When do you stop sharing about your not-so-littles on your blog? ...more

Stop Inviting My Kid to Church: Religion Is Not for Children

Recently, a few of Miss N's friends have been sincerely inviting her to church. This part will be touchy for people who do not believe the same as we do and I respect that; I'll raise my kids and you can raise yours. I do not think religion is for children. I think that they should be exposed to the beliefs of all people, and while I will tell my children "this is what Mommy and Daddy believe," I do not expect her to believe the same thing. I'll ask Miss N what she thinks -- and she has some really amazing thoughts on the matter -- but I will not tell her she is wrong if she disagrees with me about the big beliefs....more
