A Book a Day Advent Activity: 24 Books to Wrap & Unwrap

Last year we started a new holiday tradition. I rounded up all of the Christmas books in our house, bought a few new ones, wrapped them up and placed them under the tree. Why I'm Not Decorating for Christmas

At my house growing up, the holidays were a series of traditions and rituals and annual celebrations, all wrapped up in an explosion of cooking, planning and decorating. The drawn-out timeframe suited me perfectly; it made Christmas almost six weeks long....more

Where's My Happily Ever After?

I am grieving for a marriage that is never to be. Certainly, I am extremely grateful for my son. Having him in my life fills my heart with light and love. But at times when I'm feeling sorry for myself, I begin to feel robbed of the false fairy tale of getting married, having two kids, and living happily ever after. ...more

In Defense of the 'Unladylike' Christian Woman

A few months ago I wrote a couple of blogs about men, women, sex, marriage, masturbation, infidelity and Christianity. They were widely read, my blog stats were happy to report. I received some great feedback, too. And a half-joking guarantee I’d never be invited to speak in church in any of the southernmost states of the U.S.A. And that’s quite okay. And then, there was this - emailed directly to me, not left as a comment on the blog:Dear Jo,...more
