IKEAHackers Taught Us How to Hack Our Bestås and Navigate a Cease and Desist from IKEA

We should have known when every single IKEA Swedish meatball came onto our plates, perfectly round (and so scary cheap... it is meat... right?), that they weren't really into deviations from their norm.  Well, get ready for your Nyvoll to look like a Nyvoll: IKEA is shutting down the popular non-IKEA owned DIY site, IKEAHackers. ...more

Thoughts and Concerns on Sibling Spacing: What's the Right Age Difference?

The more we've ventured out during our days, the more I've realized that Ada not only isn't so little anymore, but also is in the growing minority of children her age sans sibling(s). Obviously this isn't a worldwide minority, and -- quite frankly -- I'm a bit shocked that there are SO many people going for number two so soon. Yeah. In our little circle, it seems most mamas with kids over a year are either toting around a newborn, announcing pregnancy, or bursting with third trimester goodness....more

Disneyland's New Age Limit Is Ruining My Spring Break!

I read in the paper recently that Disney will now require children to be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 14-years-old (Los Angeles Times, 3/19/2013) at their Southern California Disneyland parks.Gasp! This is going to spoil some plans I had for spring break for my 12-year-old daughter Meg. I Am Done with My Child's School

Have you ever had to deal with one of those teachers? The kind of teacher who always gives you “that look.” The look like you are a horrible parent because they feel like you do not do enough for your child? I have, and I am done with it. I have come to the decision that I am checking out. I know it is not the responsible parent thing to do; however, I am just frustrated and burnt out. Now, do not get me wrong. I am not saying I do not care about my children. I care about my children more than anything, which is why I have made this decision....more
