Dear Sir, Please Do Not "Shush" My Child

Dear Sir, Hi. I’d like to introduce you to my son. His name is Charlie. He’s two-and-a-half. He’s just sat through a wedding ceremony, about 30 minutes of adult mingling time, and an entire room full of people finishing a nice meal. He only cried a couple of times, and he’s gone all day without a nap. It is now 7:30 PM, and there is a big, open dance floor waiting to get danced on. He’s the kid you just said “Ssshh, ssssshhhhhh, SSSSSHHHHHH!” to....more

No, I Won't Helicopter Parent My Teen's Love Life!

They are almost 17 -- and I suggest we stay out of it. This is the comment I made to a friend and mom of my daughter's boyfriend when she called me this weekend under the guise of a real estate question that really morphed in to a "is my son going out with your daughter, again?" question....more

My Friends Are Cutting Into The Family Budget!

Dear Mouthy Housewives, My husband and I love to go out with our couple friends, but the bill always gets out of control. We are on a serious budget and can't afford to blow so much money when we go out. How do we keep the bill down without seeming like buzz kills? Or do we just have to stay home and fire up the ole DVR? Signed,Pinching Penny __________________________________...more

Should A Professor Have Breastfed her Sick Baby in Class?

Dear Bill Nye, You Don't Get to Tell My Kids What to Believe

Dear Bill Nye, Growing up, watching Bill Nye the Science Guy was a treat. I learned a lot. It was cool. It was fun. It was educational. Just this past year, I was reminded of the awesomeness that was Bill Nye the Science Guy. I got excited. My little boys were almost old enough to watch! Probably just a year or two more before they can start really enjoying this show. Well, Bill, it's not gonna happen. You see, this mama just can't get behind you anymore....more

She Who Had No Idea

She probably didn't mean to come across as ignorant and ironic.  There was no question, though, that she had an intent. The woman was a fellow federal worker, and we were sitting across from each other for a meeting earlier this week. As the small group of us sat around waiting for the others, we made introductions and small talk. ...more
