I'm Sick of Apologizing for My C-section

Did you know that April is Cesarean Awareness month? I didn’t. I didn’t even know such a thing existed. A little over two years ago I had a scheduled C-section. When I found out that my primary method of delivering Els was by C-section I was upset. I cried and felt like a failure. My body in my eyes was failing me and a C-section was the worst thing possible. I was naive and stupid for thinking that way. Now over two years later I blame the media and birth propaganda for making me feel like a failure and taking away some of the excitement of Els’ birth. ...more

A New Type of Hybrid Terror (Part 1): All-American Sons

If these suspects really are the culprits behind the bombings, and they do carry both radical religious sentiments and All-American credentials, than we might have to reformulate an altogether new understanding of terrorism that goes far beyond what we understand now. It is scary because we may have to admit to ourselves that domestic acts of terrorism and international terrorism have more in common than we want to believe....more

"Taylor Swift Hates Men": What Happens When We Tell Women Their Voices Don't Count

Friday nights are a sacred space.I enjoy coming home to do my laundry, tidy up my room…and shamelessly sing off pitched lyrics to ditties that are oddly reminiscent of my high school freshman diary while I simultaneously dance around in my running spankies and jump on top of my bed. The Man I Know

Last Wednesday night, in a debate watched by nearly 70 million people, America and the world got to see the Mitt Romney I’ve known for most of my life. The guy who is in control, the guy who knows the answers to the hard questions, the guy who cares about people and wants to help those who need it the most. That’s the Mitt I know. I couldn’t have been more proud, and I couldn’t be more confident that he will be the next President of the United States. ...more

On the Trail in Denver

Hello from Colorado! Last night, I attended the first presidential debate at the University of Denver, and I could not have been more proud of Barack. These debates are always pretty nerve-wracking for me to watch, but they’re an important part of our democratic process, and I think anyone who tuned in saw that we have a very clear choice to make this fall....more
