9 Beauty Products I Can't Live Without

It's been way too long since I've put together a "favorite things" list. With so many great products out there, it's so hard to narrow it down and say that I love just one mascara or just one hairspray... or just one of anything, really. But I've managed to put together a small list and broken it down into categories. Enjoy! HAIR ...more

115 Reasons Why We're Still Homeschooling

When we started homeschooling a friend told us to make a list of 100 reasons why we wanted to do this. "If you can't think of 100, you don't want it badly enough. When times get hard you will need to look back at your list and remember why you are doing this." It was awesome advice. We made our original list and promised ourselves we would re-visit it annually to be sure it was still valid. The list is largely the same, but it has changed a bit as our daughter has gotten older. It has also grown a little and now includes 115 reasons. Some of them are far more weighty than others. Some of them are downright silly. ...more

Why I Didn't Do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

My news feed has been taken over by friends and family participating in the ALS ice bucket challenge.  I'm impressed by the sheer number of individuals who have stepped up and learned something about ALS, donated, or dumped a bucket of ice water on their heads in solidarity. It's really cool to see so many people rally for one cause. But I have not participated. ...more

It's Time for a Frank Discussion on Vaccinating: Don't Be a Jerk

At the same time that Jenny McCarthy is learning that people are attracted to people who vaccinate their children, Kristin Cavallari is being hailed as the next Jenny McCarthy for her public statements on how vaccines cause autism. Meanwhile, back here on planet Earth—where opinions never turn into facts, no matter how fervently we believe, no matter how personal the loss or the triumph—the growing number of parents who have chosen not to vaccinate their children is in part responsible for a resurgence in diseases long laid almost to rest. ...more

It's a Boy! Unbiased Information About Circumcision

Mama Bear Moment: Your Kid Hurt My Kid

Seldom is there more anger than when a mama bear’s cub gets injured. Should a fellow kindergartner toss out a few typical teases, she’ll be forever labeled as a Mean Girl by the other mama bears, for certain. A boy who shoves another boy is a terrible bully. A child who hits must be hit at home. A kid who bites has “something wrong” with them. What is normal childhood behavior, and what is truly of concern? ...more

Has a Comment Ever Made You Want to Quit the Internet?

A few days later, I received a comment that tore me to shreds. This person accused me of writing regurgitated garbage just for the sake of luring traffic from search engines. "I bet you're not even Jewish." His evidence was that I knew nothing of Jewish culture, because I used the word "menorot" and everyone knows it's menorah. ...more
