10 Things Parents Shouldn't Say To Non-Parents

Lately, I've seen some articles (this one in particular) about how people with kids are tired of hearing certain things from people without munchkins. I know, I know, we don't get it. But maybe, possibly, you're forgetting what it's like to not have kids. There are different stresses but stress none the less. ...more

Fighting Bullying With Our Own Stories

You are strong enough -- you have always been strong enough, even as you drew your first breath, pink and sticky with placenta. You are worthy, you are beautiful, you are individual. Your very existence is a testament to courage. You do not need the certainty of conformity because you are courage. You may not think it matters, you may think that you are alone, but the very act of being you, doing what makes you happy, liking what you like, dressing how you like, exploring what you like, is a triumph for freedom and self-expression on a much bigger battleground than you could ever imagine. ...more

The 64th Emmy Awards Red Carpet Fashion Recap

Another year of great television and another star-studded Emmy Award show to congratulate all its participants! We saw bright citrus hues, rich jewel tones and printed florals, sultry cut-outs and lace overlays, deep Vs and lots of leg, shimmering sequins and bedazzled bodices, and just a few whimsical goddesses last night at The 64th Annual Emmy Award show and in my opinion, the attendees and nominees didn't disappoint on the red carpet. Hooked on Technology Like a Lab Rat

I realize this is the pot calling the kettle blog, but I’m worried that technology is sucking the life out of me. Can you relate? I feel chained, yet addicted, to electronic communications. Maybe it’s because I’m a stay-at-home mom, and those little pings from my phone remind me of a larger universe that I can’t quite see right now through the haze of Cheddar Bunnies, but my need for real-time updates is getting out of hand. ...more

Brené Brown Dares Us to Dare Greatly

In Brené Brown's new book Daring Greatly: How the Courage to be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead, she asks us to take the common view that vulnerability is a weakness and throw it in the trash. She asks us to consider instead that vulnerability is necessary. When we show up and allow ourselves to be seen and heard, we are being vulnerable. We are daring greatly. ...more

The Glamourbaby Diaries Film: Self-Esteem For Asian American Women

The Glamourbaby Diaries is a film based on a writing program I created for Asian American women and women of color. It was shot and edited by Alexis Casson. By: Ruby VeridianoAbout two years ago, I came across an article on Essence Magazine written by Michelle Obama. It was a personal letter addressed to young African American women, a letter filled with compassion and guidance for the next female generation. Her words offered a road map for the journey ahead with knowledge that the world will look different for a woman of color....more
