Mind the Store: Female Consumers Demand Fewer Chemicals

One of my favorite childhood memories was going to Target, of all places. My mom would buy a small popcorn as a little treat and while she pushed the cart through those long red aisles, I got to munch on a salty snack....more

No One Taught Me To Be A Caregiver, but I Learned

I am the only child of two highly successful and independent parents. When my father started to get a bit forgetful, I just attributed it to his absent minded professor mystique. He had a very prominent career as a president of the international division of a heavy truck and equipment manufacturer. He traveled frequently to over 130 countries and regularly met with heads of state. After he retired from this position he began his second career as a graduate school professor in international trade and finance. His IQ was off the charts and I could always count on his rational mind to see through any perceived intellectual difficulty. One day that all started to change....more

How can I take better photos for my blog?

Would appreciate some advice - I try to use an iphone to take good photos for my blog articles (when a product photo is not suitable.)  Many of the iphone shots I try to use look awful!  It's not that they aren't focused, it's just that they are boring or look amateurish.  For example, I recently tried to get a good photo of a 'turkey hot shot' dish for my last article, and it didn't look appealing at all.  I sually then end up going to istock for good photos.  Any suggestions for taking really appealing shots?  Thanks.

The Worst Green Gifts for Eco-Newbies

I'm guilty: I'm an Elitist Gifter. At least, I have been in the past. I just think whatever thing I've been using, or food I've been eating, or book I've been reading has been so gosh-danged fabulous I just have to pass it along. My very own version of Oprah's Favorite Things, if you will, but with less hysteria and sobbing. Well, maybe some sobbing---green gifts aren't always appreciated. ...more
